Is skype no longer free? How do I set up a video call?

I just installed skype since years ago and I need to do a video chat. It seems that it is no longer free. Also, if I give the other person just my registered email address, is that enough for them to find and connect on video chat? I couldn't even search for "people" after trying to follow the tutorial videos.

skype to skype calls/video is still free. So is our software forum. ;)

Thanks. If I just send the other person my registered email address, the person should be able to place the call to me at our scheduled time right as long as I'm signed in beforehand?

I think so. If you want to test it, PM me your email address and I'll tell you what account comes up.

I think they just made video-conferencing calls a premium product, but they tossed in full NSA access to your "encrypted" calls for free. Person-to-person video calls from one skype client to another should still be free (and also includes full NSA access, no charge).

I use skype for one business client, and for everything else we use Google hangouts, as horrible as it is.

Sigh, I hate it when a tangent is thrown in such as NSA...

Sure we have the technology to store information, but it is relatively useless and cannot be used against you, not even if a warrant is out to back use that information, because it cannot be used against you due to due process.

The only way any wiretapping is useful, is if there is a court order on a person before hand, thus any after that would be fine for gathering prosecutable evidence - but that would fall in the lines of "Are you doing something wrong (criminal) to begin with anyways?".

Anything that could be of political slander, is not even an issue at all - because that isn't due process period or criminal. It is a right to an opinion, expressed through a medium. Unless one is ACTIVELY ACTING on such actions, in such a destructive manner (burning the house that covers you) then it is not a problem.

If you are worrying about that, worry about your typical cell phone or land line calls as well.

Back on topic, Skype is still free.

Multiple group voice chats is still free (Skype to Skype).

A person communicating via video to everyone else in a Skype voice call is still free. It is MULTIPLE video streams that can cross to a premium service (that includes multiple caller screen sharing - single person screen sharing to the voice group call still falls under free).

Utilizing cell phone numbers to Skype and vice versa may not be though.

You're right, it's not relevant to the OP's question. I threw it in there because I felt like it, but to engage in a discussion of the issue would derail the thread, so I won't.
