Why are you not allowed to use voip?

Because I live in a corrupted country called Pakistan where the sole telecom (sucky i must say) company does not wan't any competition.

So you were already using skype and they disconnected you? Didn't really understand your post.

Skype is definatly VOIP and as far as i know, it uses it's own ports so it's easy for your ISP to see that you're using it, and easy for them to block it.

Okay so this is what happened.

1. My phone line got disconnected (busy tone)
2. I hooked my old "free" cable connection which is worse than a 14.4.
3. I thought it may have been skype.
4. I complained to the phone company.
5. I complained to the DSL company.
6. Phone back up in 24 hrs.
7. DSL company calls. I tell them that phones fine, DSL not syncing. They tell me that the phone company are changin the telephone ports of the numbers in my area. He tells me he will fix it within 24 hrs after finding the new port from the telephone company.
8. 18hrs later - I come back home and fnd my DSL working again. :)

Clifs - It was not skype :)
