Seriously...what's all the hype? Why the fsck does an hourly-paid, junior analyst position at a bank here in town require a green-belt certification??? How much is that gonna cost me...I took econometrics in college and did all that pareto sub-optimal, 80/20 analysis crap before...so it shouldn't be too hard...

It's the hot new "thing". Go for black belt certification, you'll have companies begging you to come in and fire everybody.

It is for quality. Just take the classes, and go back doing it the way it always was! :) Just kidding. Actually there is some merit to it. (Basically it is something that the quality people dreamed up so they could find jobs for quality engineers.)

Dude, WTF??? This position has absolutely NOTHING to do with quality control. Its a documentation/requirements analysis position. AFAIK the six sigma crap regarding the product should already be done by someone else...

You don't know what Six Sigma is and yet you can say it doesn't apply to the position?

Interesting analysis.

Michael, the problem is that this particular job is an admininstrative position, on an hourly payscale (and the pay band is pretty low.) Let me post the description here for you:

This position is responsible for participating in a team supporting multiple areas within the LoanSolutions program. The individual will be required to estimate and track work effort and progress against tight monthly timeframes. This is an overtime eligible position. Candidates should be able to handle multiple assignments, have solid organizational and analytical skills, effective verbal and written skills. Strong demonstrated experience with PCs and web-based tools is required. Experience and a solid knowledge of InfoMapping, Word, Excel is required. Experience with real estate or change management is desired. Minimum of an Associate degree. Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

how long does it take to get the 6sigma certs. and what do they go over. I might do this now that I quit my job to do grad school.

If I was a 6sigma BB I'd go around telling everyone "My Kung-Fu is strong!"

uncJIGGA - there is nothing in that description that says SixSigma would not be good. Green Belt basically is training in Quality systems and terms.

Amish - You're partially incorrect. Some programs are fads. Most have good value if applied correctly.

This thread reminds me of all that ISO9001 BS that was all the rage a few years ago. I even remember the old Dilbert cartoon where Dilbert was working on getting his company "ISO14000 certified".. Why? Because it was "5000 more"..
