Is shorting out your PS bad :)

I have a 120mm fan in my case, it came bare wired so i got a 3 pin to 4 pin adaptor and bared the wires and twisted them. Then I taped them with electric tape. That was 3 years ago. Recently i have been having random reboots and today decided to switch the PS (for the third time) and i noticed that the tape had come loose and the positive and ground wires were touching and seemed to be welded together i soreted it out and fixed that problem, but could that be what was causing the random reboots?

come on, someone has to have shorted out there PS before, is random reboots a side effect of this?

Let me see...

Fan stops working (leads are shorted)
Overheating results
Heat = Instability
Instability symptoms = random reboots

funny thing was the fan sometimes worked!

Hmmmmm, fan sometimes works, system sometimes reboots. That must say something.

I think the only way your question can be answered is to try a new ps.
