i know it's illegal to shine those laser pointers at planes / aircraft...

i don't think it would be too smart to shine your 1337 flashlight at anything passing overhead, but try it anyway. post about the pwnage if it occurs so i can point and laugh. :p

I'm not sure whether it's illegal or not, but putting the lives of those on the plane in jeopardy by attempting to blind a pilot (hey it can be done with lasers) should be punishable by the death penalty whether the criminal succeeds or not.

now why would you want to piss someone off in a blackhawk with side mounted gatlin guns or an apache with the turret and 8 hellfire missles and the works? are you trying to get insurance claims for your house?

I think you will end up in Federal PYITA prison if you do it with a laser pointer. They were seriously investigating some incidents like that not too long ago.

I highly doubt they would even notice your flashlight.

Surefire or not a simple flashlight isn't going to have much effect on an aircraft.

Wrong. A common household flashlight will instantly obliterate any aircraft. This is why they don't want you shining lights at them. It's a little known military secret.

Not illegal at all. But for real fun, shine green lasers at the cockpits. Please report back on your adventures.

You should make a red X or a green T in your yard :)
See if that attracts their attention.

Or you could do this really cool prank: line uo your street with white lights on both sides and make a row of green and red lights on either end.
Then wait.

I think I saw that in one of Arnold's movies. Or was that Stallone?

LOL at this thread.

Any light a civilian is going to own (and laser for that matter) will not have any *affect* on an aircraft.

However since these things don't (yet) fly themselves there are people behind those windows and canopies and yes they will notice your weilding source of photons. Collimated enough or intense enough to appear as a coherent source (laser) you could be looking at doing some explaining downtown.

The only valid reason to do this is to get attention of the operator/crew of targeted aircraft which constitues a call of distress. If you do this and you are not in distress you should be punished as anyone else would that called in a false alarm.

Bottom line: Let these folks do their job. They have enough things on their minds let alone some teddy bear hugging feverbrat playing peek-a-boo with his new toy!
