Or, is with somebody else. With all the makeup, the high eyebrows, and the crazy hair, she looks kind of creepy. I as going to idly joke about going to ogle her, but her face just looks too weird. I don't know if she's just insecure, if her handlers want her to look like a doll, or if she has skin problems she's covering up with the mountains of makeup...but, an image search quickly comes up with photos where her face looked rather normal--probably in the past.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or making a pointy elbows joke, but she is an absolutely beautiful woman.

Clearly she's got some PR people working for this crap, though. While I knew of her existence before a few weeks ago, her name is everywhere right now, for no good reason I can figure out.

She released an album like two weeks ago and had three songs in the top billboard top ten at the same time. She's at the height of her fame.

She's pretty and she can sing, in that order. So they market her that way. There's not a single song she's released where writing credit isn't shared with at least two other people (if she did anything at all), and the writing still sucks. The general public will eat it up all the same.

Yup, there's no denying that looks are part of her appeal, but anyone denying her singing ability is foolish. Her style is very distinctive.

And who the fuck cares if she writes her own music. She's not being sold as a singer/songwriter like Taylor Swift, she's a performer. Read her song lyrics, they're completely bland and uninteresting, it's how she sings them.

I saw her on one of those PBS performances from the White House shows-I think it was Ladies of Soul. I was positively impressed by her singing ability on that show-while she is not in the Aretha category she also isn't just a pretty face.

Being a pop performer is an incredibly overcrowded field and usually a very short time at the top. So if you're a babe, use it. Nothing wrong with that, it's been done for decades.

She's 21. I do appreciate that she didn't totally tart herself out by 17 (I'm looking at you Miley). There are aspects of her voice that are great. Someone mentioned her being out of breath. What I've noticed is she seems to sing in short bursts. Very rare to hear her sing something long and sustained. Hard to believe she hasn't received a lot of voice training though. It's like she has no lung capacity. Has that one big note, and that's it.
Good, but not close to the same league as a Mariah or Christina.

It's the total package, you have it or not. Sex appeal sells and looking good too. Usually the artists has a target market/demographic for their "music".
You can have an awful singing voice ( ex. Britney Spears), but people willing to put their time to back you up with good song writing/autotune, promotions, radio air time, etc. helps a lot.

Eh? I saw Selena on a TMZ a story last week and she looks about the same age as this Ariana girl. They both look like high school freshmen to me, but since they're legal it's good for the perverts who are attracted to 15 year olds. The scary thing is even with a shit ton of makeup they still look like high school students. Makeup makes females look older, but apparently doesn't work for these 2.
