Is sarcasm getting out of hand?

I imagine I will get a record amount of sarcastic comments in this thread... but here goes anyways.

In other countries/cultures/languages it is very difficult to even communicate sarcasm. They just don't get it (from what I understand, I have a little experience with hispanics and their lack of understanding sarcasm but that's it)... it's like a form of communication unique to english speakers

But my point is that, especially in college guy life, almost every word that comes out of their mouth is sarcastic. I'm all up for a joke, but constant sarcasm can wear you down. Sarcasm itself isn't the problem, the problem is the guy that thinks that every frikken word that comes out of his mouth is comedic genious and they have a smart ace comment for everything.

Sometimes when I ask you a question I just want the answer, I don't want to have to go through the 20 seconds of bs until you finally just say it.

The reason I even bring this up, is partly because of KrillBee's thread, because I'm going through/went through a similar thing as him. When it's just constant negativety coming from others, it gets hard to read exactly how they really feel.

I have 2 sets of friends mainly, 1 set I feel like were bro's and we take care of each other. We joke around plenty, but we can settle down and talk about serious stuff or whatever. When the other needs lunch we will buy it for them, and it's just understood the other will pay back someday. It's just not a big deal.
The other set is much more class clown'ish, and I've tended to always keep myself closer to this group (I guess I related better with them at one time). But now I'm starting to question how true of friends they are/would be when it counts, when all I hear is negative shiz spewing out of their mouth. Never a positive word. Granted, it's not just directed to me, it's to everybody, but enough is frikken enough. (so I've gone and distanced myself from this group).

Maybe I'm just growing up and *gasp* maturing :(

Dude we're a bunch of guys. There's no such thing as being responsible for what we say and how other guys take it.

hellz no! sarcasm is my life and it's my pride. I live and swear by it. Without sarcasm I'm no longer myself.
I can not even talk without spicing the conversation with sarcasm. Sarcasm is essential. It is way of life.

If it's pissing you off so much, invest in a better detector.

Sarcasm isn't unique to the English Language. I also speak Hindi, Urdu and a bit of Punjabi and Arabic. It's present in those languages too.
By the way, your post has inspired me...I want to ditch my clowny friends too and mature on to a higher plane. [/sarcasm];)

Sarcasm once in a while, especially if its witty is good. But constant "dumb" sarcasm annoys the crap out of me.

Eh, I think a lot of people who are constantly negative or sarcastic are trying to appear intelligent by way of ripping something apart. On some level, everyone wants to appear witty, intelligent, or knowledgable. Being kind of mean is a shortcut to those ends.

It is true, some people think they will appear to be more intelligent by being indirect and using sarcasm.

I try to say exactly what I mean. Hopefully, this makes it easier for people to understand what I am saying.
