Is Sam's Club (and those type of outlets) worth it.

I've never been in one of those places but my wife just got a free membership thru her work. We always just go to Meijer's for our shopping needs (does everybody know what Meijer's is? they might just be a midwestern chain), they pretty much have everything...food, clothes, hardware, etc. and their prices are comparable to the other chains in town.

I've heard that you have to bag your own stuff at Sam's Club. That's a definitenegative for this lazy bastige, but are the prices cheaper enough to make it worth it. SC is a little closer to me, also.

Dude we love sam's club! just bought a pair of CK jeans for $15.00 Best bet is for you to go check it out yourself!

Five pound bucket of Miracle Whip! :Q
  • I just got wood! 😀
But seriously, they do have some great prices even on electronics and PC peripherals. Not to mention tires! I don't have a membership, but still succeeded in using them to price match NTB. NTB matched their price on a set of Michelins and still threw in the free battery of their own promotion. Hey, Sam's Club is just one more weapon in your arsenal for the battle to win Hot Deals!

Yeah, I like the clothes prices there too.

It's scary how things can add up, though! I went yesterday and got razor blades (granted, I buy the Venus blades, 12/$17.95, but they were $0.33/blade cheaper than in other stores), water, Spaghettio's, tortilla chips, Mr Yoshida's sauce (yummy), and contact solution, and it was $50. But all of those things were things I would have bought anyway, and I got them cheaper than if I had bought them one by one.

One suggestion I have is that if you're going to go, make a list of things you commonly buy from a regular grocery store, their price per ounce or serving or whatever, and a calculator with you so you can see if you're saving anything, and how much.

Like the razor blades, they're $7.34 for a pack of 4 at Target here, that's $1.835 per blade. At Sam's, they were $1.4975 per blade, $0.33 cheaper, * 12 = $4.05 savings. I think the Mach 3 are even better.

Good luck!

You have to do some homework. 99% of the items you can find for the same price or less elsewhere. They do, however, have special buys every now and then that makes the membership worth it. If you shop enough and carefully you can save money.

It totally depends on how much you want of something. If you get 5 lbs. of Miracle Whip, will you eat it all b/f it goes bad? I know that if you have to PAY for your membership, you have to be more concerned about if it's worth it. If you have a free membership, it's probably worth a shot.

'Round these parts, Sam's can hardly be beat for meat and soda prices. Also, it's worth it for the frozen food selection and Mr. Yoshida's sauce.

Sam's Club is sort of like Costco right? I freakin love costco...anything you buy is like super-jumbo-economy size 😀 I've also bought a TV, printer, and quite a few DVDs there. The small membership cost is well worth it.

Hmm....look above. Two people with the same girl icon, both are Members, and they both talk about Mr. Yoshida sauce.

Conicidence? I THINK NOT!

😉

Costco is slightly more upscale on some items.
Sams (& Costco) is worth it to me, but it's not for everybody.

You have to factor the membership cost in, but if you buy enough stuff, it pays off. My girlfriend works at a club where she brings in bottled water to sell at $2/ea. (24 oz. Ice Mountain) We buy it for 31 CENTS a bottle and the sales pay for the water, $45 for her and her partner, $30 to the bar and $15 for me. Three water runs a year and my membership is paid for.

Gasoline is consistantly cheaper there and where it was really high, it would be about 10 cents/gal. cheaper. Books are 40% off, CDs are $12-$13, I got the Cliffhanger DVD for $14 as opposed to $25 at Beast Buy. Cereal is CHEAP!!! I buy powdered milk, cat litter, all kinds of stuff.

Now the selection isn't the same as a K-Mart and sometimes some common things are unavailable (e.g. Last week my g/f wanted Folgers Instant, but all they had was decaf.) but it CAN BE a good deal.

Heck, your membership was free. Go for it! Costco gave away free memberships when they moved into the area and I've renewed three times already!

They have great frozen food section, beer is also pretty cheap there too. and they got like a 5 gal. container of
cheese balls for 5 .00 😀
