Is Rock Band PS2 compatible with PS3?

We just received Rock Band for PS2 as a result of a mis-shipment by Amazon. After calling them, apparently we can keep the thing for free, due to it being their error. So, we essentially just got Rock Band, valued at a hundred bucks, for free.

Now the dilemma. I've only a PS3 set up, with my PS2 stashed who knows where. Would I be able to use the PS2 guitar, drums, microphone, and game on PS3?

I would also be willing to sell it and buy Rock Band 2 for PS3.

Yes, the instruments are EXACTLY the same between the PS2 and PS3 versions. So as long as your PS3 does BC, you are good to go.

However, I would go ahead and sell it and get the PS3 version, because I'm fairly sure you cannot buy downloaded songs for the PS2 version.

Nope, and that's a big thing for this game.

Ehh we're decided to keep the PS2 version. Found my old PS2, gonna buy a memory card and we should be set.

Is there any other strong incentive to get the PS3 version other than DLC? HD graphics would be nice, but for the hassle of selling it and paying an extra 30 bucks...?

The instruments will work on PS2 or PS3, right?

If that's the case just keep what you've got (free RB1 instruments, essentially), trade/sell the PS2 RB disc and put that towards the PS3 RB or RB2 disc. I'd imagine that would be only slightly more expensive than buying a memory card for the PS2 and you'd be getting the full featured game.

Someone correct me if that's not how it works.

You'll be sorry if you bother seeing what songs they have available.

Sell the game PS2 game disc as others have already mentioned, and go out and buy the PS3 Rock Band game disc or Rock Band 2 game disc and you're set.

Trust me, you will want the better graphics and DLC.

Do what everyone here is saying. Don't dig up your PS2 and buy a memory card. Keep the instruments and just trade in the game and get the PS3 version. You may not want DLC right now, but it'll be nice to have the option to and there are 4 free songs you can download.

Works with my 60GB. It freezes up every once in a while, and I've been having terrible problems with drum connectivity (dunno why since it's wired), but it works well.

Decided that if I were to buy a RB game at all, I'd probably get RB2 for PS3 sometime down the line since the instruments are frontwards compatible. Then, I would also have the benefit of DLC. But for now, I think getting Rock Band out of nowhere for free is pretty awesome. :p
