IS Ricer a sterotypical or racist term?

Not racist. Isn't any term that categorizes something stereotypical? If I look at a car and say "that car looks fast" doesn't mean I'm stereotyping it as a car that goes fast based on it's looks?

Neither. Ricers are usually 18-25 year old white boys from upper-middle class homes who think they're hot sh!t with daddy's old car. Or they could be asian. Or black. Or anything of the above with the same aprox. guidelines...

It would be hard to deny it didn't originate from a slightly racist meaning, but I certainly don't think of where it originated when I hear it.

ricer is a term describing a guy that makes appearance odification on his car that will make it look fast, while the car has less hp than your lawnmower

what? really? I was under the impression that ricer=asian and was indeed a "racist term". Why would "white boys" be called "rice"-ers?

where did the origin of "ricer" come from? i remember reading it here somewhere, but i can't seem to recall.

i always thought they were called "ricers" because they were normally asian cars and asian people eat rice.

could be construed as deragatory.

IIRC it was originally used to refer to japanese motorcycles.

its not racist... i don't think its stereotypical either though... it'd be like saying people with low IQs are retarded...

I have NEVER associated the term ricer w/ asians.

Almost, it came from the idea that most of the people who modified their cars were asian and asian people eat rice.

Not necessarily that the cars themselves were asian made.

because they take japanese cars and make them look like race cars or modified cars without increasing performance

These cars are referred to as "riceburners" because they come from Asia and are not powerful. Thus, the owners of these cars are called "ricers".

"Riceburner" was originally applied to japanese motorcycles. They were called riceburners because they came from japan, where rice is a main dietary staple. It's exactly as racist as calling an american car "hamburger powered".

what if Mexicans normally drove old, beatup Mazdas, and people started calling them "refried bean mobiles" or if black people always drove around minivans and people called them "collared green rides".

wouldn't that be pretty deragatory?

i honestly don't care, but i do think that it may have had racist undertones when it was first used.

No, unless you're a hypersensitive assh***.

It has nothing to do with who drives the cars, it has to do with where they're built.

Bad analogy, because Mazdas don't come from Mexico. The name isn't applied because of the driver's ethnicity, but because of the car's origin.

Oh, so then there's no way in hell it could be racist.

Good job neglecting the fact that the whole idea of "rice" being racist stems from the use of rice by Asians. You are a true unbiased intellectual.

It doesn't even really have to do with cars origin anymore. I've seen plenty of "riced out" Cavaliers and Sunfires.................

Anyways, it can be used as a derogotory term. I was called a riceboy at a club before............ But I think that's just about the lamest insult anyone could come up with. I mean what if I called a white guy "potato boy"? Does that not sound incredibly stupid? 😛
