Depends on the context. I don't think it is automatically. But rice hating is getting old. Yeah it's tacky and gaudy but seriously people, give it a rest.

<< i guess it's only as old as people pretented to soop up their cars with stickers, eh? >>

I meant more around these forums, it hit a point where every couple of days you'd see people ripping on riced out cars. It was funny the first time around in the days of when riceboypage.com first came out, but it's tiresome now.

The term rice first started when Harley riders were making fun of Japanese sport bikes calling them rice rockets. Now rice has been expanded to include just about any car (usually compact coupes and sedans, but there are examples of bigger cars being 'riced' out or even trucks)that has been modified in the interest of show rather than go.

None of my Asian friends think it's derogatory. I don't think it's derogatory towards any person, maybe towards the car, but who cares. It's your car, do what you want with it. Put it in my view and I can say what I want about it.

<< I wonder if anyone would call a Toyota Tundra a ricke rocket? :p >>

Depends on whether or not you put a ugly arse body kit on it, nasty chrome wheelz, drop it 6", a couple of side exit 6" tips, stupid blue headlights, 6 dumb yellow foglights, and rediculous looking interior.. Otherwise it's just Toyota's excuse for a truck.

I can't stand how overused the term is now.

Most people have sh!tty cars, but do have the odd bit of money to try to make their car look a little better.

As soon as they add a nicer looking exhaust, or tint their windows, or add some better rims, they automatically get called a ricer, just because they ain't doing it to a Corvette or a Viper.

Get a life people! Ever thought people like making their cars look nice even if it is a POS?

Now, to those that have POS cars that do worthless mods to make their car look identical to a more powerful car, thats just stupid (IE: Putting a "5.0" on a POS Mustang).

About the time that "Rice Rocket" became an accepted term for Japanese sport bikes, we started to refer to them as "crotch rockets", and to the riders as "butt surfers".

Now that's derogatory . . . :D

i think you see them made fun of here a lot because computer types and car types are battling sects for teen/20-something who are decently, but not well, endowed. You, me, everyone here can spend thousands on a computer and still not be much better off but look down at someone who spends thousands on a car.

It is when I use it. Of course I don't use it to describe someone of any race, just cars made in Japan that idiots joke up thinking it makes them look or perform better.

The British equivalent is 'Boy Racer', is rice just for cars from the far east? Do you call any modified car a ricer? Nothing wrong with modifying cars, just as long as it's tasteful.

If Ethanol becomes more popular would we call U.S. cars that run on it "Corn Rockets"?

Will that become a racist/derogatory term?

I think I'll put an Athlon sticker on my K6-2 system. That should gain me 200-500mhz easily! :p

Does the term carry over to computers yet? Or have I said too much? :Q

Of course it is. It was meant as a direct insult at the Japanese by Harley riders as they saw their grossly overwieght, super cool bikes get blown away by 2 stroke motorcycles with a 1/4 of there engine size at a 10th of the cost.

To the politically correct, sensitive types it would be the same as:

motza monster machine
fried chicken cruiser
curry car
spaghetti speeder
refried racer
