back when I started in retail there were no internet sites to buy from, or at least very few. Now it seems like you can buy anything online. So what do you think, is retail dead or not?
 
No. There are still hot deals to be had in B&M stores. And for big (like physically big) items like TVs, CRT monitors, washers, dryers, microwaves, etc., B&M is king.

B&M electronics retailers will NEVER go away. Mark my words.
 
I don't think so. I have reservations about spending thousands of dollars for electronics online. I like the option of being able to return an item that high priced to the store, as I believe most people do.

what proponents of online shopping don't understand is that shopping is an enjoyable event. People like to get out of their homes every so often and this is why brick and mortar stores are never going to die.

Shopping is an social event.

I've had pretty good luck in getting the B&M stores to pricematch with online sites for items, provided they are "authorized sellers" of said item.

No, people don't research stuff before they buy it. I recently quit Best Buy. I got sick of working for them. People rely on the salesperson to make the decisions for them. They don't know what computer does more than the other. Same with TVs and car audio. Same with appliances. For most of us, we know what our product does and why it is the best (or worst).

Retail will be here for a while. And I agree, shopping is a social experience.

they don't need to yet, at least for many many years. B&M buyers will always be dominant for awhile...

Not even close...people are scared of the internet still. Alot of people that shop retail can't stand to buy something they can't see in person. Then there a lot of people who just don't know you can get things for so much cheaper on line...and there are also people who don't care.
 
No. Internet takes time, and you have to pay shipping. When you need something fast, you have to go retail, otherwise you end up paying about twice as much as the item is worth for shipping.

1. Yes internet takes time, but depending on where you make your purchases, shopping over the 'net and paying shipping is worth the wait.

2. To be honest, I've never needed a piece of "electronics" soo bad that I would pay twice as much as the item is worth for shipping CheesePoofs 🙂
 
No, there is no way I would have blindly bought my brand new B&W 602 S3 and Cambridge Audio Azur 540A on the internet. Going to a shop and spending 4 hrs listening was required for this purchase.
