Is rent in Australia weekly or monthly?

Just wondering.. is rent commonly a weekly or monthly thing in Austrlia?

I'm guessing it is weekly because this seems like a friggin bargain if it is per month.

I'd e-mail them but I really don't want to be spammed about that kinda stuff.
 
I'm actually just asking out of honest curiosity.. many of my classmates went to Australia to study abroad earlier this year, and I hope to go next spring to study. They told me how beautiful it is there and how they would like to possibly live there. I was joking around with my girlfriend saying we should move there and that led to me checking out apartments online.

I'm pretty sure it's weekly though. There is a $2,700 "bond" on the apt, which is 1.5x the rent per month.
