Religion is not important at all.. Never mind that it's probably one of if not the single most powerful motivator of mass hysteria in the human psyche.

Your post definitely deserves to be flamed, both for your apparent inability to communicate in proper english and for your obvious ignorance. Go to school, take some classes, and study the subject. Once you've learned enough and matured enough to engage in a proper discussion, please come back.

homosapiens gain ability to foresee their own inevitable future deaths
homosapiens fear death
homosapiens have self deception as one of their talents.
homosapiens use their self deceptive genius to create a system where they never "really" die

VERY good point! But I have one issue that is not letting me let go of my believe in religioin. What happened before the big bang? What was here? If another universe that collapsed what about before that one?

Don't forget that many religions say that animals don't go to heaven or have an afterlife (some do) so is it possible that we are just another animal step in preparation for the next thinking species that will be the real chosen ones?

It is important to some people. Every culture in the world that is, or ever was had some form of religion. It is an inherent part of who we are and it satisfies a part of our mind. I'm not sure how to describe it, but many psycologists believe that religion is a good thing for many people.

Before Homo sapeins invented language they and the universe were one. We lived and had our being for billions of years in the Garden of Eden. We and God were one and the same. With the advent of language we began to define and distinguish. We invented good and evil and applied them to ourselves. We pretended to be good and felt we were evil. That feeling, owing to the fantastic pain it caused to feel was suppressed and deeply buried. Now we are alone and separate, without the sense that we and the universe are one. Occasionally someone in a flash of intuition after profound struggle to understand his or her internal ache could heal that split. They would become God again.

So yes, religion is important because it' real purpose is to return you to who you are.

Why is it necessary to know (everything)? What's more likely, it's some phenomenon we don't yet, or can't understand......or it has to be some all powerful being doing it. That goes for both the big bang and other subjects we don't have an explaination for yet. I think 0roo0roo has it right for the roots of religion, and later it became a way to control the populace...which has now lessened thankfully.

I wonder about that. People often justify their religion by posing questions that aren't yet answered by observation and science, and I have a hard time internalizing this. Just because I don't know what happened before the big bang nor what if anything happens to my consciousness after I die is no reason for me to believe in a monotheistic God and "savior" and a whole steaming pile of other poop... I simply accept the fact that I don't know, and move on.

Humanity is largely irrational in this regard.
