Is rape rampant at your college?

My girlfriend is starting her college classes this Monday. She will have to be at class until 10:00 pm at night. Right now she has to walk across to the parking structure in order to get to her car. People are telling me that I should not let her walk by herself at this time of night. Now I'm wondering is rape this rampant? I plan to get her pepper spray. Any other tips you can provide? I'll be at work until 8:00 pm and I don't mind driving to her school for the first couple of times just to escort her to her car.

Punch dagger. Your best friend.

What exactly is a punch dagger?

If I could, I'd buy her a gun but that isn't feasible.

Think of a T, where the top part (Horizonatal bar) is the handle and the vertical bar is a knife blade. Brass knuckles with a knife point. They make them in fairly small sizes too.

Isn't there some on-campus security/escort service that will take her to her car?

Thats a pretty piss poor example as its a medival replica. But it gives you the idea. However, modern ones usually dont have a wrap around blade such as that, but rather the blade attaches between your middle and ring finger.

**EDIT**
Heres another example, if a bit show peice-ish rather then fuctional. But, you get the idea. You can get "normal" ones that are pretty small and without that wings on the ends, so you just would have the center blade and the handle. They can even be kept on a belt loop. Someones grabs her and its about a pistol draw away from "Now I got'sta stickya" and "I'ma cuta ya deep" time.

the univ should have police escort..

she can use it... its free..

Sac.State had a few assaults this sem, no rapes that i know of..

Get her pepper spray.. I plan to for vanny.

Isla Vista though always has crowds i worry about her, because she walks to and fro to her friends place.. but then she does know how to defend herself.

Wow that is nice. I guess I could pick her up one of those. But, what if the attacker were to use it against her? That would suck. My girlfriend is rather skinny and very petite.

If she's over 21 a .38 and a conceal and carry might be an option, if she's properly trained in their use. Otherwise, it would be gentlemanly of you to escort her. :)

Theres a big difference between rape and murder (attempted even) usually pulling a weapon scares most rapists off, especially in a public area like that. And one advatnage of a punch dagger is its much harder to take it away from the victim. Simply make a fist and it WONT come out. Even if you open your hand, as long as you keep your fingers together it will still stay in your hand, although could at that point be taken away.

alot of schools also offer a walk along. you call them up and two people will walk you to your car or close by off campus.

Rape is far more rampant, especially on college campuses, than men generally realize. The problem is that it often occurs in date-rape situations, and girls are often too scared of the public humiliation to report it.

A person is probably more likely to get raped in a bar than walking to their car at night...

Probably some overzealous concern going on there, which isn't necessarily all bad. An ounce of prevention....

The feminist and misandrist student groups on college campus probably have stirred a good many people up in a frenzy. "Rape" and "accusation" are very different things. With upwards of 60% of rape accusations being unfounded and without merit, most of which being alleged "date rapes" (i.e. he said he would pull-out but didn't and now I want him put in prison), its difficult for the feminist and misandrist groups to reconcile this with their incessant assertions that "a woman wouldn't lie about a thing like that".

I sincerely doubt that a high number of alleged date rapes would translate into a higher risk of forcible sexual assaults from some sexual predator hiding behind bushes and lunging out at women walking to their cars then forcing them at knife-point to submit to sexual intercourse.

As cool looking as the punch dagger is, I don't think most people will walk around with something like that all the time.

For a more realistic solution try this for the flight type LINK

And if your girl is looking for a fight try this LINK

I have the asp baton 16" and its very concealable, fits in my pocket. FYI you can adjust the tension on the stick so it fully extends before the first blow.

i feel sorry for girls, i can walk in the parking lot late at night and not really worry.. cept for muggings i guess. either spray, or a dagger on the belt.. course i guess with womens fashions that owuld be too visable. andtheres the wonderful conceal and carry..course its no good unless you've practically got your hand on it while your walking. rape stats are probably a tad inflated, with some stats i've seen every other guy is practically a rapist:p

they make jackets that have shock capability now. kinda like a walking electric fence if activated:)

Your university is required to publish rape statistics regularly. College rapes are way underreported and mostly stem from date rape type situations. Remember Ted Bundy? He got started at college!

Rather than focus on possible weaponry, wouldn't it be better to have one of the campus police escort her? Like GhettoFob said, most places will do that on request.

Before you follow up on any gun suggestion, double check your university's policy on firearms. I know some, if not most, have a policy forbidding them on campus for any reason.

It's not rampant here at EMU. Have your girlfriend walk with the campus safety people. Here at EMU, the service is called "safe walk," they are students whose job it is to walk across campus with people who are uncomfortable doing it alone. You shouldn't need any weapons. Just having somebody else with here should be enough to thwart most attacks.

If your school doesn't have a safe walk like service (most do I think), then have the campus police/pubic safety escort her. Weapons are NOT allowed on any college campus I can think of. Carrying a gun is probably a good way to get expelled.

My vote goes for the pepper spray, and for her to always have it in hand when she's out of the buildings at night.

Don't resort to weapons when the pepper spray will do just fine.

I think there was an incident at Rutgers (my alma mater) not too long ago. Some guy was breaking into dorm rooms and raping women. Absolutely disgusting.

They eventually caught the SOB but I'm not sure if the case has gone to trial yet or not.

I remember seeing that on the news. He was a serial rapist but only two of the many cases were actual Rutgers students. Still tho..that's pretty bad.

I remember hearing that sexual assault was pretty common near the apartments that I'm going to be moving into this semester. Pretty scary..but I think I should be ok. And if I get to the point where I'm scared to walk out of my apartment...I'll go and invest in some pepper spray or something.
