Is racewalking a joke? I mean really, do people say they like it just to laugh inside?

Exhibit A

Come on. Don't say "Yeah but they can do 7 minute miles!" or "Less knee injuries!". I really want a good argument on why we shouldn't laugh at this because I think it's the most hilarious thing to look at. IMO, it's like race-crawling. Grown adults who should be running made to crawl. Give them knee pads and see how fast they can get around a track.

Does anybody here do it or support somebody who does?

Yeah, they look like complete doofuses. I cant believe they let garbage like this and synchronized diving in the Olympics, but get rid of baseball.

I had this exact argument with my girlfriend. Sports like racewalking and synchronized swimming are unfair to the athletes competing for the same medals in real sports.

There was one optional class we could take during middle school, one of them was speedwalking. Took it with some buddies

We weren't allowed to jog.

I dont get it either

Heavens no! What were you thinking? Don't jog!!! The rule is always at least one foot has to be in contact with te ground and te leg has to be straight (because a non-jump run with bent legs would presumably be quicker). Silly, silly sport.

OK here is a perfect analogy: it would be like having doggy paddle a swimming race.

Or how about the butterfly, or backstroke? They're variations and subset of a main skill that requires a special skill in order to do.

Don't be so sure, the winning time was 20K in about 80 minutes. I'm not particularly fast and I've done 10ks under 38 minutes.

I was talking about the OP, who's probably not in any kind of shape.

And doing 6 minute miles is much faster than the average person.
