Is purchasing the Dell XPS M1710 worth it?

The reason I'm asking is the video card that comes with it. The 7900GS will be worthless shortly when the DX10 cards come out. The price seems great compared to other gaming notebooks out there. Any experience with this laptop?

It all comes done to what are you going to use it for? Gaming? Presentations? OR to look cool:)

For gaming, I'd get a SFF case and a nice LCD.

Small Form Factor...like those made by Shuttle.

No experience with the laptop but every review I've read lauded it with praise - including the battery life which is supposed to be amazing for a high-end gaming laptop. And now, its available with Core 2 Duo processors. And no, the laptop won't be worthless when the DX10 cards come out. Reason?

You'd be hard-pressed to find any half-decent rumor/speculation about their arrival. We have ATi and nVidia launching refreshes this September/October...and there is talk of Vista releasing on January 30. Most guesstimates had DX10 cards pitched for a Xmas release - now, it might get pushed to coincide with the Vista launch.

And if you've noticed, it takes a considerable amount of time for both ATi/nVidia to launch Mobile-versions of their latest GPUs. A next-gen mobile-GPU will be much further off than the already far-off DX10 desktop-GPUs.

doubt it. DX10 won't be fully embraced for a couple of years. The Software is only coming on janurary and the hardware is here yet. it will take sometime for game developers to use DX10. although getting with a conroe will stay useful for quite a while.
