Is PrevX 3.0 "good" or "bad" anti-malware?

I remember trying to detect/remove some malware on a friend's machine, and in the process, I found something called "PrevX" that claimed to detect and remove certain malware that I was googling for. But once installed, it becomes clear that it will only scan, and will not remove, until you pay for it. Worse yet, it has no uninstall!

So anyways, my friend calls me today and says that it has detected something bad on his system. From the filename he gave me, it sounded like the Via HD audio driver was being flagged. But I haven't had a chance to look at it in person.

I had him update Malwarebytes and do a full scan with that, and it found nothing of interest.

Is it ok to just ignore what PrevX says? Does anyone know how to remove PrevX?

If it's real Prevx software then it's legit. They had/have a scan only version that you do have to pay to remove anything that it may find. As you can imagine that does cause some controversy with some folks.

There forum/s are at Wilderssecurity. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104

Their full version is one of those programs that need internet access to communicate with their server for complete detection. http://www.prevx.com/

You should be able to remove it normally. http://info.prevx.com/help.asp#xuninstallation

PrevX is incredibly powerful, but it is known for false positives. It has like a 98% malware detection rate solely from heuristic scanning. That's what makes PrevX so cool.

Prevx is awesome. My friend got a trojan from his trip back from China and NOD32 and Kaspersky could not remove it, but Prevx did. Now I keep it on all my systems as a complement to NOD32.
