Is portablity worth the cost?

I just sold my old pc and im just wondering what u guys think about gaming notebooks. Heres how what i figure:

Pros:
Portablity(biggest thing)
space efficiant
(and u know u want a notebook cause they are kick azz)

Cons:
much more expensive(from my point of few)
performance decrease

If i were to build a desktop i would be getting A64 939 3000+, 80gig( i already have) and a x800 xl blah blah total is about 1000 bucks.

If i were to get a laptop i would probably get one from ibuypower w/ A64 3000+ and 9700pro w/60gig 7200 rpm hdd run me a little over 1400. (o yeah i would enclose the 80gig i have)

Im just wondering if u guys think that 400 bucks is worth it. i really dont want to buy a notebook or the desktop and regreting that i have bought the other in a few months. Im looking for a comp. that will make me set for the long run. So please put in your input and thank u all in advance!

It all depends on the need for portability. If you travel and are required top use a computer away from "home," then a laptop/notebook can be justified. Otherwise - probably not unless money is no object.

IMO the answer is no for most people, though only you can decide for certain. How long are batteries lasting these days? How often do you plan on using it where there's no way to get an outlet? I think most people get them to impress others, some for the "cool" factor, and a very small minority because they actually need them...
