yeah, that's the thing:

Churches--juicier, larger pieces, actually spicy
Popeyes--dry to all hell, mild.

honestly, the only thing Popeyes has going for it over any other fried chicken chain are the red beans and rice. the "biscuits" are an absolute disgrace to those that know biscuits. (but Churche's biscuits are certainly worse. In their defense, though, they don't put that shit in their name, haha)

The only thing I didn't like about Churches was the crust was so thick. It tasted great but I felt like it was way more unhealthy. Although if I'm eating dark meat fried chicken another 300 calories or fatty grease probably doesn't matter ;)

I think another trip to Churches is in order so I can re-compare.

I was in St Pete Beach Florida last week for vacation and thought the fried chicken at the Publix grocery store was the best fried chicken I've ever ate. Better than KFC, better than Popeyes. My girlfriend agreed that Publix fried chicken was the best she had as well.

I like Publix fried chicken. It's decent and cheap. 8 pieces for $7.49. But best supermarket fried chicken is Piggly Wiggly.

hah, did you go to that one down the street from Popeye's?

well..it's probably the only one.

I haven't been in some time, but they are always out of spicy. it's freaking annoying.

pro tip for chicken chains: Just offer spicy, god damn it!

Their biscuits are butter drenched, salt laden little morsels of sinful win. The chicken is okay. But it's really expensive.

expensive? hardly. the one near work runs a promotion that every Tuesday you can get a leg and thigh for $0.99.

one Tuesday i showed up and asked for 3 orders and a soda. the total was less than $5. :D

If you are into it...their chicken livers are really good...if you're into deep fried chicken livers.

I've never been lucky enough to get a GOOD piece of Popeye's chicken. It's always been dried out and disgusting.

KFC, on the other hand? It's hit or miss. The original recipe stuff is actually pretty damn good right out of the fryer, but it's also nasty if it's been sitting around for an hour or two.

From my own personal experience with all of the fried chicken chain stores, YMMV.

Popeye's > KFC > Church's > grocery stores

Darn it, we have to use coupon for specials and the coupon states "One coupon per customer per visit", therefore, I can only order one and the price is higher too, $2.49 for 2 pcs (leg and thigh plus 1 biscuit).

Does anyone else have Chick-o-Breast sandwiches (COBs) at their Church's? I think it may just be a local thing, but they are fucking awesome.

Local place thats done broasted chicken since the 1970s>bojangles>popeyes>KFC

And I generally won't get biscuits at any of those places, easy enough to make them at home, only takes about half an hour total.

I always laugh at people that compare a national chain to a one-off place.

Why? Because it's that much better that I wouldn't bother with a fast food joint unless I absolutely had to? Because I support a local economy?

I have a choice and I take the best one honestly.

No it's because the way they are run is entirely different than the other. Also saying that local is automatically better is dumb as well.

Not entirely different I can walk into said local place and walk out 2 minutes later with chicken, coleslaw and biscuits/rolls/whatever other side I want. Same as KFC or Popeye's or any other FF joint really.

And why is local dumb? Obviously they are doing something right considering how long they've been in business. And I don't see why supporting your local economy is dumb.

Not good, not good at all. Has a weird texture and chemical taste like the chicken was tenderized in trichlor.

He means more along the lines of that you can take the local chicken people and put them into a popeyes and the way popeyes requires their chicken to be made will of course change how it comes out. Thats just the nature of national fast food chains.

Not to mention you ranting about your favorite local chicken place isn't doing shit for anyone else on here because I highly doubt anyone will come to your town to try the chicken.

He also did not say local was dumb he said automatically assuming a local place is better than a chain is a stupid idea. Some local places are better than chains some are not so be it.

Public has the best fried chicken, hands down. Better than any fast food place.

True, grab an 8 piece@7.50 and a side of potato rolls, some Hawaiian sweet rolls and your set, for around $12 feeds 3 people, not bad IMO..
