Last weekend, my wife and I were sitting around reading and half watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives when they did a piece on a restaurant serving southern style biscuits and gravey. My wife was intrigued, never having eaten the dish before and found the recipe from this restaurant and bought supplies to make if for breakfast the next day.

I must say, they were extremely tasty, but my god could I get fat eating those. I'm not sure I have eaten as much fat/butter/salt/carbs in one meal before. Makes it easy to see why the obesity problem is rampant in the southern states.

I am a huge chicken eater and I think Popeye's dead last in taste among the major chains.

I'm actually interested in your opinion on this, lol.

:D:sneaky:

but you would actually consider KFC somewhere in the running? crazy---they don't even make fried chicken.

yep. Bojangles does this, too. Two kinds of gravy, as well.

Popeyes is some of the best non-burger fast food around. It's completely horrible for you, but it's delicious.

I'm in Calgary. We don't have Popeyes chicken here. I've traveled all over North America on business over the past decade, and I've noticed that Cities that have a large black population have Popeyes chicken franchises. Not a lot of black folks here in Calgary, so that's probably why there is minimal demand. We did recently get a Five Guys burger place though. But yeah, I wish we had Popeyes here. All we have is KFC.. Yuck.

Yes, it's very good, and their red beans and rice are amazing. I don't think anything on their menu is actually healthy, but the food sure as heck tastes good.

that's what Bojangles does. If you don't like it: GTFO. :awe:

There are Bojangles now in Central Florida. I have one about a mile from my office in Maitland (and there's a new one in Lake Mary). So, so good.

We also have a few Maryland Fried Chicken's around, which I think are delicious. However, I've had a few friends say they've gotten not-so-good food from them. I guess I've been lucky as I've always had delicious chicken there.

Popeye's is the best man. The chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, buscuits, and red beans and rice are godlike.

Ya, I just got back. I think I like Popeye's better than Church's. I'll eat either one and am starting to get addicted to it. It's my cheat meal of the month for sure now. Church's crust is VERY thick. You could almost make a side from it :) - Church's is spicier by far though, Popeye's "spicy" isn't even spicy. Church's had bigger pieces of chicken last time I was there though. I would have gone with 2 Tuesday specials but I don't think my stomach or intestines can handle 2 legs and 2 thighs of fried goodness.

I do enjoy some Popeye's, especially when the alternative is McDonald's.

My SO went to get lunch yesterday and I mentioned the Loaded Chicken Wrap from Popeye's. She has a boner for McD's chicken wrap, and I figured she would go to McD's for herself, and Popeye's for me (they are next door to each other). She returned with chicken wraps from McD's, nothing from Popeye's. Needless to say, I ate the McD's chicken wrap twice in one sitting - my first and my last time. That shit is nasty! (True story)

Like most chains the quality can vary greatly based on the location, management and staff.

In my area the Popeyes is very good, my favorite over KFC and Churches. But we have a local sitdown place with two locations called "Babes Chicken and bisquits" that beats all the chain chicken shacks by a large margin.

I was in St Pete Beach Florida last week for vacation and thought the fried chicken at the Publix grocery store was the best fried chicken I've ever ate. Better than KFC, better than Popeyes. My girlfriend agreed that Publix fried chicken was the best she had as well.

yeah, that's the thing:

Churches--juicier, larger pieces, actually spicy
Popeyes--dry to all hell, mild.

honestly, the only thing Popeyes has going for it over any other fried chicken chain are the red beans and rice. the "biscuits" are an absolute disgrace to those that know biscuits. (but Churche's biscuits are certainly worse. In their defense, though, they don't put that shit in their name, haha)

I find that most of those grocery deli fried chicken is better than the chains.

well, except for Bojangles. their chicken is better than God. ():)

Screw you guys!
Chruches is way better. But Popeyes is still better than KFC.

And I did find good restaurant chicken, at Logans Roadhouse.
