I honestly think they hired a republican moderator to balance things out..

Seems like we are not allowed to have opinions on the Wars that differ from Administration Jibber Jabber..

PNAC is why we attacked Iraq.. not Saddam.. not Osama.. not al-qaeda

CsG always pooh-poohed the influence of PNAC (which to me seems abundantly clear), but for the most part I don't think it's in controversy. If a mod really locked a thread because of the words "our PNAC doctrine" in the title, this place has fallen very far indeed. I am still assuming it is some kind of misunderstanding, and that there was originally something offensive in the thread title.

The indicated phrase in the thread title was intended to act as a trolling issue.

The initial intent of the thread was worthy of discussion.

Theads in P&N are to be political or news.

Hijacking threads due to political viewpoints will no longer be tolerated.
Nor will attacks on members based on political leanings.

I do not have the time/patience to cleanup the mess that gets created by political trolling from both sides of the aisle, therefore I will have to draft  help to do some shoveling.

One warning will be issued.

Case in point

I may not be able to catch them all, but the law is being layed down, similar to what was done in OT a couple of months ago.

Well this should be interesting.

And I second Czar's request for a sticky.

And I think you should clarify what constitutes an attack. For example, would a post saying:

"When are you ignorant anti-war letfist hippies going to wake the F up? You are destroying America you disgraceful pigs"

be considered an attack, even though it's generalized and not personalized - but it's still directed at a group of folks on P&N?

I would assume attacks on public figures are fine as long as they aren't considered trollish right?

Don't see why not, but I don't know that much about it. From the Google, it looks like it is typical Neocon.

To paraphrase an US Supremene Court justice;
I can not define pron, but I know it when I see it.

The same will be done with personal attacks and attempts to hijack threads with worthless political leanings.
I expect that some common sense, courtesy and decorum is able to be used.

When one wants to attack a public figure then do so in a thread that can stand on its one.

This is the way a line-item veto will be implimented.:p
No more burying attacks inside a decent topic thread.

Each Mods will have different standards on where to draw the line; some will do so based on which side of the aisle they sit.

However, the bullwhips have been distributed.

Having the last phrase in the title has created a lock.

Mod
Could someone please describe (in acceptable forum language) what the unacceptable last phrase in the title was, so we all know what is being referred to here?

This is all it said
"Maybe we should attack Iran's Reactors to advance our PNAC Doctrine"

I said this because today is the day in history that Japan decided to advance their imperialism upon us. And because PNAC is the doctrine that is running our military decisions..

Who is Paul Wolfowitz US deputy Secretary of Defense AND The Jerusalem Post MAN OF THE YEAR AND PNAC architect

That's what I'd like to know. If the mod didn't like the reference to the PNAC doctrine on a personal level and locked a topic because of that, then he'd/she'd be out of line.

I have to admit that I am totally baffled and confused by this new policy. Honestly. It seems to be at least touching on a ban of any discussion of political philosophies. While P&N can be a bit of a wild and wooly place, such a restriction would gut a great deal of the reason for the forum in the first place. And I'm not sure how you can distinguish a discussion of news events from a discussion of underlying political philosophies-take a look at the thread about Ramsey Clark for example.

I was just putting that out there as an example dahunan - I started to pull a quote for an - eh - infamous member who posts like that but decided to just make my own example of what I think a "shotgun personal attack" is.

:) I know yours was .. I am dense.. but not that dense.

There are a lot of posters in here who see things in black or white and also shout that same way...

It is indeed confusing, and honestly I don't see how anyone can rationalize locking a thread that mentions PNAC in an appropriate context, while leaving this thread completely untouched.

You do realize that politics involves partisanship right? If you take the partisanship out of politics...well, there's nothing left. You should just change it to the news forum.

Or maybe you could outline what constitutes an "attack", because that's a huge grey area.

I do not have the time/patience to cleanup the mess that gets created by political trolling from both sides of the aisle, therefore I will have to draft  help to do some shoveling.

Political opinions are fine.

Immature name calling will not be tolerated anymore.

Hijacking threads for political views are not acceptable.

The way the relevant thread was created and to avoid thread to continue without the potential hijacking that occurs with such additions, the extra phrase was removed.
