I dunno about games (my video card can't go up to stratospheric resolutions), but in 2D i'm always using 1152x864 or 1280x1024. 1024x768 makes everything way too big on my 17".

Just to have an idea, until some months ago, I was running 1024x768 fine on a 14".

Yeahh .. I have great eyes ;)

IMHO, resolution is typically over rated.
Here is why I think that:
For one thing, I used to over rate it.
For another thing, if I run the X-Isle demo at 640 x480, and ask people what resolution they think it is, they always say 1024 x 768.
Also, the textures are typically MUCH lower resolution, so depicting a 128 x 128 resolution texture at 1024 x 768 still looks like low res until you get pretty far back away from it.

in a 3d game the size of the polys should not change relative to the size of the monitor as the res is bumped up. so play the game at the highest res you can make your game run well at and have your monitor maintain ergonomic refresh rates.
