Is Ping essentially useless for me?

From what I've gathered, Ping allows your friends to see what music you've purchased from the iTunes store. Great. What about those of us that like to have a physical copy of the CD as well as a digital copy?

Is that all it's really good for? Seems pretty pointless...

Over all, iTunes 10 was a 'ho-hum' upgrade for me. I do appreciate the speed improvements in Windows, though.

Ping is for people who "live in iTunes" and use iTunes to buy all their music. It's to help facilitate sharing between friends of what music they're listening to and to help sharing between bands to have a direct connection with their fans. And also to help make it easier for people to buy songs on iTunes.
