so I want to go to my nearby lake because there are a lot of rocks and other stuff that I want to take home to use as decorating for my front yard.

do stuff like these belong to the state? it's not considered taking other's property is it??

if it isn't yours and you didn't buy it, why do you think you can take it?

if it is at a "public" lake, it belongs to everyone, not to you. if you take it, you are stealing it from public property

try walking into the "public" police station and take the desk sergeants pen. if he gets mad, tell him it is public property and you are entitled to take it

When I was 7, I had a rock collection. Said collection consisted mostly of rocks that I found on the ground outside of my yard. I guess I should pay a fine now :disgust:

As long as you're not hauling them off in large numbers, legal or not, it won't matter.

You were 7 and it was a rock collection...he's an adult that wants to go to a lake and take them to use on his front lawn for landscaping....

Stop being a cheap skate and go buy them, to do what you suggested might not be illegal (pretty sure it is if you get caught by the governing body of the lake) but it is low class.

I know that state parks here in Pennsylvania don't allow you to take anything you find. Its weird, I can catch a fish at a state lake and keep it, but I cannot keep a couple rocks I find while hiking next to the lake?

I'd still go for it. I mean, if you take a couple rocks, its not big deal. If you load a truck full of them, it will become a big deal.

If it's a public lake and belongs to everyone, then that means that it partially belongs to him, too. If he looks carefully and sorts through the rocks, he can take only the ones that belong to him.

Write your name on it, that way, if anyone ever questions you, just say, 'It's mine! See? It has my name on it!"

You've got a fishing permit, right?

As long as you're not in a place where collecting is prohibited, (national or state parks) you should be good...and I HAVE seen people get ticketed (and fined) for illegally collecting rocks and "stuff" in national parks...You don't want to fvck around there, because it's a federal offense, with a federal magistrate, not some namby-pamby local court and municipal judge...

Depends on source.

Free land is free land although that's rare.

Some parks allow so much private harvesting of their resources...you can ask a ranger there the rules.

Funny story on taking rocks though is we had a guy in the neighborhood that thought other's rocks in their front lawns were fair game. I am not sure the outcome but the police were at his house one night with a bunch of our neighbors. Don't be that guy.

How many people actually have fishing permits/licences?

As long as you're not filling the bed of a pickup or taking boulders, take what you want.

That said, taking the size of rocks you want to take to decorate your yard would probably be illegal.
