Is pharmacy school difficult?

Phokus

I'm thinking of going into pharmacy school. Anyone know how many years you have to do it? How many classes?

At UofToronto it is four years. And it doesn't sound too difficult (my cousin is there).

The question is...WHY would you want to be a pharmacist? Sounds boring as hell (unless you have a privledged research position, not just an average one...and definitely not working "over the counter" at a drug store or in a hospital).

Two years of undergrad and like three years of pharmacy school. Pharmacy schools are getting a bit tough to get in now due to huge competition between students. I took the PCAT (aced it!) and was just about set on going to Pharmacy school. Then I realized it would probably be a boring as hell thing.

Should have gone to pharmacy school for the $$

Is that for everywhere? I know they were talking about going from 5 to 6 year around here but I'm not sure if they have yet.

Also they only let so many people into the program each year which keeps your paycheck looking nice when you get out.

In the US, yes. It was 5 years until a few years ago, then became a 6 year doctorale program. You get a PharmD at the end of it.

At least here in NY it is REALLY competitive (3.5 gpa) to even get into the program. But if you have the grades go for it.

my friends son was going to Pharmacy College.

he went for 2 years, and dropped out.

He got straight "A"'s in high school, and said it was tough passing at College.

And why does that pharmacist have to be 2 and a half feet higher than everybody else ?

Who the hell is this guy ? "Clear out everybody, I'm working with pills up here. I can't be down on the floor with you people ! I'm taking pills from this big bottle and then I'm gonna put them in a little bottle ! And then I gotta type out on a little piece of paper ! It's really hard".

My sis went to pharmacy school, mainly for the money.

With ZERO job experience she is turning down $55,000k offers because she can get more working retail vs hospital. I will PM the op next time i get around to talking with my sis and i'll ask her how hard she thought the PharmD. program was.

As others have already said, it pays very, very well.

Pharmacists can make a starting salary of up to $80K/year (working retail), and there's expected to be a shortage of pharmacists for at least the next 7 years. Sounds good to me, regardless of how boring it is. 🙂
