Is Penryn going to finish AMD off once and for all?

I want AMD to stay around too, although they did irk me a lot with the x2s.

I am immensely more satisfied with my super-fast, far more stable, 1.25ghz overclocking, 50% cheaper e6600, than I was with my 600 dollar, 400mhz overclocking, 4400+

Penryn is not much of a leap beyond conroe, so I don't see it as a big deal. What I'm really looking forward to, however, is Nehalem, since it will have the IMC and ditch the prehistoric FSB, amongst other things. That will wipe out the only remaining technological advantage AMD has right now, so AMD better have something real good up its sleeve by then. I'm hoping the K10 will be good, but with all the delays and silence from AMD, it doesn't look too promising.

Intel is far more capable at producing better CPUs at this stage simply because they have deeper pockets. R&D and the resources to bring to market tested, well designed products ASAP is what its all about. If AMD's finances were as strong as Intels, then things would be more interesting, unfortunately for AMD they're not.
