Is PCIE 2.0 @ x8 & x8 too low for GTX 670s in SLI?

Hey all, I wanna run 2 GTX 670s in SLI, but my Gigabyte Z68 mobo with 2500k runs SLI in PCE 2.0 @ x8 & x8, not x16 and x8 and definitely not x16 x16. Is that too low a bandwidth? or is it just scrapping by? Again this is PCIE 2.0, NOT 3.0. I game @ 1440p.

thanks in advance!

If you are getting decent performance without stuttering and you are happy that's all the matters. It will hold the cards back some but really if you are getting your personal satifaction that's all that matters.

ok thanks but i just wanna know how much of a difference it would make? is it not noticeable in real world performance? are they being limited from stretching their legs or is the x8+ x8 enough bandwidth for them?

x8 and x8 will hold them back a bit but you should still see 60fps in most all games and that all that matters.

hmmm but what i'm asking is how much of a difference does it show? If its a big double digit difference then i might consider upgrading.😛 i recall an article from 2010 that showed a 7% difference for a 480 SLI setup in x8 +x8 in BF2, but a gtx 670 SLI is a much more powerful card, no?

here's the article with conclusion:

do u think that still applies to PCEI 2.0 x8 +x8 or has the difference become substantial? I game @ 1440p.

You're fine, it isn't anything worth worrying about with 670's.
PCI-Express 2.0 x8 is still a viable mode for 2-way multi-GPU. This is the mode most Core "Sandy Bridge" platform users will end up using for multi-GPU, and differences between PCI-Express 2.0 and 3.0 x8 is just 4% and 2% for the GTX 680 and HD 7970, respectively.
