Is PC gaming more difficult than Console gaming?

I've been playing Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360 lately and I've been able to stay toward the top of the pack in a lot of my games, sometimes even scoring the most points in a game. Keep in mind I'm not a console gamer at all and this is the first FPS I've played on a console since Halo 3 which I probably played for about six hours before I got sick of it. When I first started playing first person shooters on PC, I used to die twice as many times as I killed people in games such as Counter Strike, Battlefield 2, HL2 Deathmatch, etc. What are your thoughts on whether or not first person shooters are more difficult on PC than Console?
edit: I should add that I'm now pretty good at PC FPS.

depends..

im mouse dependant on FPS.
However i have a friend who would rock a mouse user on a pad.

So its up to the user.

As for single player, whats more difficult? console.

Why? Not many FPS will have a developer console available, while 90% of the PC games has one.

You just need to unlock them.

A couple of my friends are amazing at CoD, one on Xbox 360 and the other on PC. If I had to guess who would win in a CoD match, I'd pick my friend using the mouse because watching him play almost looks like he's using an aimbot(which he isn't). His crosshairs are almost instantly locked onto your head in a game. He sets his sensitivity extremely low and kind of flicks his hand when he needs to move quickly.

It's not that which one is more difficult it's just that they are different. Consoles all use some type of auto-aim on all the games to help assist you. PC games do not for the most part and rely totally on your skill. Consoles will see more casual players than on PC so the skill level is usually higher on PC. That's not to say there aren't skilled players on consoles but since it's cheaper and more accessible, there are going to be more people who don't play all the time.

yeah.. and my friend with a pad rapes all of us.

He even plays the PC version with a PAD if it offers it.

Its all on the user.

You also have to consider the fact that the consoles are evenly equipped amongst each other. Computer gamers will lower resolution and eye candy to get every last bit of performance.

Personally, I'm more accurate with a computer vs controller.

Heh...I thought this thread was going to be about DRM.

I think the auto-aiming in console FPS's evens things out difficulty-wise. I am certainly more precise with a mouse than with a gamepad, but find both console and PC FPS's about equally difficult to play.

I generally do a lot worse on console shooters, but that's mostly cause I never play them online and I've been playing FPS's on PC for like 15+ years. Using a thumbpad to aim is just weird for me, feels so much more sluggish compared to using a mouse.

I am horrible at console FPS's, but I do generally OK when I play them on the PC. I've been playing GTA4 on the 360 and have been getting used to it. Some games though, like Dead Rising, it is tough to shoot without auto aim. My vote is it is up to the user.

I think that while a mouse lets you aim more precisely than with a thumbstick, it also leads to a greater disparity between players. I'm probably only marginally better with a mouse than with a thumbstick, depending on the game, but the gap between me and the best players is huge on PC shooters. In fact, it's to the point where I really don't play PC shooters all that much anymore, unless they're either single player, with friends, or not as dependent on precise aiming.

With console shooters, everyone has to use the thumbstick, so you all have the same disadvantage. To some people this is a big disadvantage (mainly the most skilled players). But to others, it's a big help. I enjoy shooters but I'm not very good at them, and if I'm playing a PC shooter, I usually get a 1:2 kill/death ratio or thereabouts (again depending on the game). On consoles, I'm closer to a 1:1 ratio.

Oh, and there's also much more hacking and cheating on PC games.

So you think the one person you know, is better than everybody, no matter what? Wrong.

He would get owned by a professional PC gamer, using his 360 controller on a PC. Thats a fact.

I would argue that overall, the PC system is more difficult than console gaming, and the experienced PC gamer is better than the experienced console gamer.

There are exceptions, but find me a console game with the depth of HoI2 or with the replay value of SC.

Frankly it depends on the game and how friendly it is to casual players. A hardcore game will be much more difficult on the PC, while an easier game will be roughly the same on console or PC.

A hardcore FPS that differentiates nearly entirely on skill (quake 2/UT'99) has an extremely steep learning curve all the way to the top and this is exaggerated by the precision allowed by the mouse/keyboard control scheme. When I used to play UT competitively I could dodge backwards off a two story drop and consistently score a headshot on a target that I fell past using the unzoomed sniper. I wouldn't necessarily say that PC gaming controls were more difficult to use, but the added finesse made them nearly impossible to master to the same degree that a top player had mastered them.

On the other side of the equation, I played a ton of goldeneye 64 with friends in 4 way battles and it was lots of fun but not nearly as determined by skill. The loser of one round could just as easily win the next round (moonraker through the door) but the controls were imprecise enough that even after playing it extensively the fights were very unpredictable.

Umm I'm pretty sure he wasn't saying his friend was better than everybody, just that he was better than all of his friends. Don't be such a dick.

What does the developers console have anything to do with how difficult a game is to play on any system, cheats anyone?

Nah just another idiot....

Stop with the personal attacks. This isn't OT or P&N. An ad hom here and there in a post is tolerated. However, not if it is the entire content of the post. At least not on my watch. -PC Gaming Mod- DAPUNISHER

I think it's just what you're use to playing. If someone is a console-only FPS player, they're of course going to be much better at it and be likely to think that playing the same game on PC is harder. Same goes for PC-only FPS players if they try out a console FPS. Back in the late 90's I was able to play Goldeneye 64 pretty well. Once 2000 came around and I picked up Quake 3 Arena for PC it's been nonstop PC FPS since then. Now I try to go back and play Goldeneye sometimes when I'm back at my parents house, or even pick up a FPS for PS3 and I find it so much harder than it should be.

Sorry but 2 people with equal eye-hand cooridination and skill, pad vs. mouse, pad will lose.

There is a reason auto-aiming came to be for console shooters...

Haha, maybe I need a 360. I get wrecked in MW2 on PC. I have a ~1.5 K-to-D ratio but only because I am very careful. Even day one people seemed way good on average. I've watched a few videos and people in some games are complete idiots. Why can't I find games like that?

I've played PC shooters for a long time, but not as much in the past few years so maybe I'm just not as good anymore.

On a console I'm not very good because I'm not used to using a controller. I'll play on PC until they stop making games for it or I can use a mouse on a console.

I have Racedriver Grid on the PC and recently played the PS3 version. The PS3 version's AI is much weaker and the AI cars blatantly slow down. Crashing with 1 lap to go is impossible to win in the PC version, but in the PS3 I was able to catch up.

Maybe it's just me...

Nah just another idiot....

While being a douche, he was correct though. Thats all.

Mouse users would generally rape the hell out of a gamepad user. But i know people too who are so used to gamepads they prefer to use them on a PC if they have the choice. I sure wouldnt recommend it though.

yeah, super pro pad users probably stand a fair chance (apparently even raping chance) against terribad mouse users
