I had an ebay bidder back out on me, so I might end up selling a digital camera to some guy in Belgium. He insist on using PayPal, so my question is: is it safe? Would that guy be able to reverse the charges to his CC (or whatever he used when he made a paypal account) as soon as he gets the camera? Should I spend the paypal $ as soon as the transaction goes through, so he doesn't have time to reverse the charges? If so, are there any decent online stores that take paypal? I know I'm being paranoid, but I've seen quite a few stories about ppl getting screwed by paypal. In fact, there was one posted on this board not too long ago. All your comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

PayPal, AFAIK, is very safe. You can check out all the buyer protection/seller protection options at their website. There are quite a few places that take PayPal (2cooltek, www.compuwiz-tech.com).

You'll hear both sides, here. The only trouble I've had with Paypal is that when sending money from my bank account, Paypal provisioned more than was required - to make sure that I had the funds to cover it - and didn't return the extra to my account when the deal was finished. Other than that, Paypal rocks. If you have money in your Paypal account, the transactions go sooo smoothly -as far as I've seen.

But it's the account-side that worries me.

dude, don't sell to a guy in Belgium. Chances are he's using stolen funds and you'll be ass out.

I haven't had any major trouble, & I've been using it for quite a while... How long I don't know for sure, but well over a year for certain.

I personally like the service.

My friend sold a cell phone to a guy in Indonesia. He payed via PayPal. Everything seemed fine. Two weeks later he gets an email from PayPal telling him that the guy payed with a Stolen CC and they couldn't do anything cuz it was out of their jurisdiction. So PayPal tried to charge my friend's CC for the amount. Luckaly he was at his limit and PayPal couldnt bill his CC. So he reported his CC stolen so PayPal can't try to charge it anymore :)

Moral of the story... use paypal only if the other guy is a Verifyed PayPal user
