Is Panasonic a subsidiary of Matsushita, or just a brand name used by Matsushita?

Panasonic is one of the brand names Matsushita builds stuff under

If it says Panasonic on it, Matsushita manufactured it...

got a good friend who works in QA at the plant in Danville, KY

AFAIK Matsushita owns Panasonic. So they are one in the same.

Panasonic also owns Quasar, I think.

But JVC is a subsidiary of Matsushita, not just a brand name, right?

Why are you wondering?

Is there a product you're considering buying? If so which one? Might be able to get you a Hot Deal on it.

The parent company of JVC is the Victor Company of Japan, not Matsushita. (thus the acronym)

I'm fairly certain that Matsushita is the parent company of the Victor Company of Japan (JVC).

And I was fairly certain that Panasonic was only a brand name used by Matsushita, but the Panasonic web site makes it sound like their is actually a company called Panasonic.
