Is Pan the best Newsreader for Linux?

A couple things to get out of the way. I'm aware of Thuderbird but I don't want an email client. Yes I'm aware of binary grabbers. I realize it's not 1996 so leave your snarky comments for another thread.

So that being said is Pan the go to newsreader for Linux based systems? Are there other ones out there that are good for text based posting?
