Seriously, at what point does a word become passe? I mean, "groovy" and "the bomb" were cool once too. I'm starting to feel that "owned" is about as dated as "totally awesome".
 
hey, there's a keybind in unreal 2k4 that makes your guy say OWNAGE!!! so I doubt it, ownage is as strong as ever! 😛
 
You never heard "bombage" or "groovyage" or "bombed" or "groovyed".

Owned is just much more versatile. It has tense. It is a verb - not an adjective. It doesn't require the use of a pronoun or prephrasing to change it's meaning. Not to mention it has derivatives such as pwnd and such.

You just can't do stuff like that with "bomb" or "groovy".

You can say that bomb and groovy were owned by ownage.
