jeesh, i hadn't looked at this thread in a few days, i thought rob cur was kidding at first :p

damn, i wonder if he turns himself in if he hits "burn at maximum" when making a dvd and it burns at 8x instead of the 4x he paid for? friggin criminals.

My, never knew that the P&N crew would be so interested in the CPU/PROCESSORS AND OVERCLOCKING section of this Forums :confused: :p

You are sucking up more elecrtricity and killing your own health. If overclocking does not produce more heat and is not illegal in any means, I would have given it a GO decades ago.

Manufacturers would stop overclockers dead in their track if they could, they have tried but overclockers will always find some brilliant ways to get around it althought difficult and only the most thrilling overclockers are willing to take this kind of risky business of frying their component in the quest for more speed then necessary.
You could tell a drunk driver that 100+ miles an hour is dangerous and illegal, would he listen? I doubt. I put the overclockers and these automobile speeders in the same shoe :D

Run for Congress, you belong there.... with your nose buried right up Tom DeLay's A**.

If you advance the timeing on your car you get more power. Is that illegal? Nope. But if you melt a piston cuz of pinging or dont meet emisions, thats another story, you tried it, you lost. Suck it up.

RobCur:

Youve gotta be kidding. Any game will max a cpu for as long as you play it. Makes it worthwhile just for that.

Jesus most definitely overclocks. I have seen the miracle of his overclockage with mine own eyes. It was the day that I bought a second hand Pentium 100mhz to replace my pentium 75mhz. I followed the instructions in my computer's manual regarding the position of the jumpers, flipped them so that according to documentation I would be running at 100mhz. Yea verily did the lord himself intervene and elevate my cpu speed to a blistering 120mhz! I was awed at what was clearly Jesus himself overclocking through his divine oversight. Of course I didn't know it was overclocking then, I had to look it up to find the word for it. Oh and I believe it uses less wattage to overclock a P100-->120 than it would have to buy a celeron 300a and run that, so don't give me any crVp about wasting electricity. It was completely stable too until my heatsink fell off, since it was just mounted by glue without any sort of clip at all (which was the style at the time.)

He cannot provide any Law because there is no law about OC yet. (Law degree student)

to me giving off higher radioactive waste.

Im having trouble getting over this. Radioactive CPU's, LOL. Wtf is this guy talking about.

I'd hardly call it stealing. Vendor won't make any loss, either. They send it to a warehouse, the warehouse sends it to the company, and the company happily replaces it, simply because they have no time to test every single CPU they receive from RMA, so they send it back to the foundry and re-use the re-usable parts.

Its a cicle. Besides, only 2% of CPU RMAs are because of OC. So no stealing there. Don't be such a dramatic goody-two-shoes boy.

Yeah a Vendor would make a loss. Where do you think they get the extra CPU's. Do you think they just magically appear!? They have to come from parts and those parts have to come from somewhere. Then when a-holes like you go returning parts that YOU ALONE, and NO ONE ELSE screwed up you raise prices for the rest of us. Albeit obviously you alone couldn't single handedly raise the prices but it is all the people out there with the same mentality that you have.

Im not being dramatic and im not being a "good-two-shoes". How about you stop stealing!? Dont expect anyone to sympathize with this matter. This is a very touchy subject on the forums if you haven't noticed.

While this thread is likely a trolling heaven, I'll throw in a response.

Overclocking your own processor is perfectly legal. There is also no reason why this would be unethical or any of the like. It's just like buying a car that only "makes" 200 horse power, but then installing a super-charger and boosting it to 235. Not illegal, unless you then use said car to drive 125 mph in a school zone at 9:30 AM.

Buying a processor, overclocking it, then re-selling it without disclosing the fact that it is overclocked is not legal. (as far as I know anyway)

Overclockers all have the same mentality they will never admit to any drawbacks of this illegal practice. Frying cpu is their game, bragging about the increased in speed is also their greatest pride that they would blow up their computer in process if need be. When things get to hot, they explode like an atomic bomb. First you see smoke then it lits up like a nuke and the house goes on fire. Most overclockers keep an eye on their computer for any sign of fire hazard. Usually they do not panic but instead post on forums for sympathy because it makes them feel better if others know about their so called bad overclock. Stability is not their priority, F**King up cpu just for fun is all game to them. If it fries, who cares say the overclockers fanatic. Just RMA and said it's defective? Their chance of acceptable RMA are null because anyone with a brain of a monkey can tell it was overclocked and not defective.

This is getting serious, manufacturers are making it harder and harder for overclockers to achieve their goal by crippling the cpu and making it next to impossible to get anymore then 10 percent increase. These overclockers will put up with anything to achieve their goal all in the name of the need for speed.
It is an addiction and is it not healthy. Their brain works like this:
1=1.5
2=3
3=4.5
5=7.5
7=10.5
10=15

They try to get at least 50 percent increase in speed before they become satisfied but most of the time they do not accomplish this without ruining their beloved cpu. since i'm in a forum full of cpu overclocking hypocrites, they will defend their pride with humourous remarks but I care not as I believe what I say makes more sense then all the overclocking frenzy combined.
Trying to reason with overclockers is futile attempt at best but at least I've tried to smack some sense into them if it helps at all, the more, the blessed they will be. The only cure for overclockers is for them to get in a car, do 200mph disregarding the speed limit on the road. They might die in a wreck, but who cares right? This is in the name of speed proving for once and all that speed can kill if done excessively.

1) Show me an example (news article or post on forum) of an OC'd CPU expliding like an atomic bomb or lighting a house on fire.
2) The chance of acceptable RMA (at least from AMD) has been 100% in my experience (1 CPU) even though the IHS had been removed and put back on
3) How are we hypocrites? We say we like OCing and do so, which is not at all hypocritical

From his previous posts he has overclocked in the past "I was the first human being to overclock" and he also talks alot about instability and crashing and smoke coming out of the computer.

My guess is that he overclocked without knowing what the hell he was doing and fried a system years ago, and he was so traumatized by the experience that he has demonized overclocking. Otherwize he would have to admit to himself that he killed his own rig:(

Last time I check don?t AMD and Intel both sponsor ocing contests ?
Both Intel and AMD have Unlocked Multipliers on some of there chips what do you think they are there for other then ocing.

Overclocking and driving 200mph are two entirely different things, one is highly illegal, and suicidal, the other is sane, legal and a good hobby.. You need to seek a mental health professional.....

RobCur, your argument has NO BASIS IN REALITY. You have NOT provided ANY evidence of the illegality of overclocking, because you CAN NOT do so. Simply saying that something is does not make it as such. Saying that overclocking is illegal makes it illegal in the same sense that my saying that I have an Athlon 64 X2 in my computer would make my Athlon XP turn in to one instantaneously. Both propositions are equally absurd.

Haven't heard of an Intel chip being unlocked in a while :(.
