Is overclocking a 1700+ worth it?

I used to have a celeron 300a overclocked to 450mhz and a duron 600 overclocked to 1ghz. Now I have a 1700+. It will run at 145mhz but I am afraid my IBM hard drive will fail. Is this type of overclocking worth it? Also is it worth unlocking my cpu? Will I be able to tell a difference? How much danger is there that I will burn it up if I mess up? I wonder what the average overclock of a 8 month old 1700+? I will check the stepping when I get home. Thanks for your time.

If its already working then you have passed the risky point of data corruption when you 1st tried it!
Overclocking by FSB is definitly worth it terms of better performance ,whether you'll notice the difference depends on what you use your PC for ,I very much doubt you'll see the difference in games(you will in benchmarks though) ,but for most DC projects you will,as well as encoding mp3's etc.
Unlocking the XP is quite fiddle its only worth it if you want every last MHz.

Only if you cross connect different L1 bridges ,then damage could occur ,e.g. fried RAM!:Q.

Many older XP's overclocked to about the mid 1500's-1600

If you have a sexy pent house pet as a girl friend its not worth overclocking a 1700+ Athlon XP !

But if u have a High school Tramp who?s cheating on you with 10 guys u know then its worth it !

ohhh and if u have your right hand ... then its defiantly worth overclocking !!!!!!! ASAP

I'm only able to get 66 MHz out of my 1700. I had another post about it on here... but I think the reason I can't go farther may be because of the cheap bargain basket RAM I bought from Best Buy.

i got my 1700 to 1800 .............. sorta burnt out after time ....so i say insted of loseing a $70 chip pay $8 more and get a 1800 or so........

I have had experience working on three 1800XPs, and none of them did that well with overclocking.
