Is Origin being slow for anyone else?

Can someone do me a favor and download an Origin game, and report back with your download speeds? I've been downloading BF3 and it's painfully slow. Like, 40 kilobytes/second slow. Literally.

Steam downloads just fine at full line speed though (1.5 megabytes), so I wonder if it's just Origin. Has the recent SimCity debacle affected EA's download servers or something? BF3 should definitely not be taking all day to download.

And please, I don't want a "hurr durr EA sucks" circlejerk. Just wondering if anyone else is having download issues.

I'm getting between 250-300KB atm. So yeah, it is slow.

I think it is because SimCity released over in Europe tonight.

It was painfully slow when I was downloading the Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3 the other day. 50-100 KB/s. At the same time, my friend was getting 1-2 MB/s. No idea what's really going on.

Simcity is causing strife with Origin as a whole with the busted game servers, overwhelmed customer support, saturated download servers, and a cloud system that has failed to keep up with demand. On top of it all, instead of doing the smart thing and delaying the european release until things have staballized they extended the LE sale to drive local sales and kept going. Every day the amount of players hammering the servers is increasing yet they can't maintain stability with what they have now. I'm curious how much longer before the servers are stable let alone return to full feature OPS (they disabled Cheetah speed, etc).

Thanks for the clarification guys. So I guess it actually is related to Sim City :hmm:

Yup, I resumed downloading BF3 about an hour ago and my speeds were back to normal. Whatever was happening earlier, is fixed now. 🙂
