Is one stick of ram faster than 2 dual channeling sticks when the total amount of ram is equal?

Real world performance boost with dual channel is less than 5%, at the same CPU core speed.

Which means dual channel is still better than a single stick not to mention the additional memory available. Of course, this is with the assumption all ram sticks are of the same size.

It's about 5% for A64 since it's already efficient, but can make up to a 20% differance with netburst chips..

stevty2889 makes a good point. With AMD64 processors, dual channel won't make too much of a different. It's memory control is on-die(or something like that). Sure, it's faster, but to see real differences you would need to use an Intel processor. I suppose it could be looked at as an advantage/disadvantage to A64 chips. I just think to myself I never have to worry about 2 sticks of ram to get better performance when one can do just fine.

What's your build? It's true, there are other factors to this.

That's like asking if RAID-0 is faster than just a single drive of the same capacity. Of course!
