Hi guy, I need your help. I found out that my Antec PSU SP2.0 500 fan is making noise and want to know is ok not to plug in the fan to the mb. I am using this psu on Antec P180 case, it in the bottom which I have the 120x38mm fan running. Will my psu fly or burn out if the fan is off. Thank

Sorry, I did explaine it. It sound like a win tunnel and it run around 2637 to 2800rpm. When I unplug it, sound much better.

Generally PSU fans DO NOT obtain their power externally to the PSU. All they do is connect to the speed sensor (only one or two wires, yellow and sometimes black). The red fan lead is the power wire. The mobo connection should have NO effect on fan speed as the fan power is controlled by a thermal control circuit within the PSU itself. Unless you are plugging into something entirely wrong.

I remember reading that at least one Antec PSU had exactly this issue, and most people ran without it plugged in with no problems whatsoever. The PSU simply got sent the wrong signals from the motherboard and boosted the fan up to far higher than it needed to be.

Yes, the connection to the motherboard is only for monitoring the fan speed, and does not power the fan. Just leave it unhooked and make sure the fan spins, and your noise should be gone.

Allio and Varun Thank you,

I un plug it and the fan still spining, noise is gone. Like you guy said when it plugged to the mother board the fan is spining fast and make lound noise. I feel little better now that is O.K leave it unplugged.

The SmartPower 2.0 will always have one fan running. The 2nd fan will only kick in if needed. As said above, plugging the cable in to get the RPM monitoring gives the PSU the wrong signals and kicks the fans up a lot higher than they need to be.
