Is Nvidia a better company than ATI?

From a profitability, diverse, etc view, is Nvidia a better company?

I've been on a ride with NVidia stock from 20.82 down to 9.50.

To me it seems Nvidia is more diverse, and now, the technology leader.

ATI makes:
Graphics Chips
Set top boxes

Nvidia makes:
Graphics Chip
CPU Chipsets
Cell Phone processors
Set top boxes (Xbox)

On August 5th, Nvidia turned a profit of $5mil, 3 cents a share.

That was for the period of time when the GeforceFX line was being slaughtered in every respect.

So my question is, between August 5th and November 5th, will Nvidia's financials have been significantly impacted by regaining the technology lead with the 6800 series?

This is a financial thread, and therefore OT, not video.

The 4500 is a mighty impressive processor. If the cell phone manufactures can take advantage of it, it could be huge. More people have cell phones, then xboxs. And most housholds have more then 1 cell phone.

EDIT: and PhasmatisNox, its RECOMMEND not RECCOMEND.

tweak and phas, your posts make no sense.

but whay are you asking if it is a better company? that has nothing to do with the stock. financials have to do with what their operating costs and what else they make etc. Nvidia may well be ahead in that fact due to what else they manuf. but i dunno. i dont follow them since i have no stock of theirs.

I just want to sell soon, and I'm not selling at a loss.

Hopefully, ATI reports less than spectacular earnings on 10-7 and Nvidia posts greatly improved results on 11-5 as a result of the 6800 series regaining the technology crown.

I'm just curious if any of you guys see that happening.

Has the 6800 series affected NVidia a lot?

Have ATIs manufacturing problems weakened them?

what ATI reports, if its negative, most likely will effect Nvidia negatively as well. because a competitor reports neg. does not mean the other will report pos. nor will it mean that they will go up.

you cant figure to hope ATI goes down because Nvidia will go down with ATI im almost positive.

I know that, but when NVidia posted its negative on the 5th

they were concerns it was because of losing market share to ATI

if ATI posts GREAT earnings, nvidia will decline i think, because they'll say ati is gaining marketshare at the expense of nvidia

modest ati earnings are what im hoping for

followed by a vast improvement by nvidia on 11-5

Just FYI,
ATI has contracts for 2 of the 3 next-gen consoles (Nintendo and Microsoft), nVidia has none.
ATI has true set-top box solutions (Xilleon, Theater, and NXT lines). AFAIK, nVidia has nothing comparable.
ATI also has handheld products to compete with nVidia (the Imageon line).

I'm not sure how that plays into the financial side of things, so you can make what you want of this information.

I think, as of late, the X800 series has scored more OEM deals than the 6800. OEMS like that the X800 drinks less juice and produces less heat.

AND PLEASE quit limiting ATI to only two product categories! See Here! (ATI too makes GPUs, CPU chipsets, and Cell phone processors...IMAGEON was out way before NVDA had something!)

And who knows what will happen if HL2 is released before Xmas and it turns out that X800 cards are the cards to own for it!

I thought you were banned?

I'm not banned, and I didn't buy Nvidia out of some illogical love for the company.

I simply thought Nvidia would rise above 20.82. It's 52 week high at the time was $27.

Things didn't go as planned.

Does anyone think Nvidia will return to that point, or is their long term outlook still pretty bad?

Will they stay at less than $20.82?

nintendo and xbox are using ATI chips right? things dont look so good. it was a pretty bad call buying so high.

edit: werent you the one that bought because you thought the 6800 was gonna make big change for nvidia?

There's a rumor Nvidia will produce the graphics chip for PS3, if sony does indeed decide to outsource it.

I sent an email to investor relations about it....no response.
