Is now a good time to build a new gaming PC

I've had my 1.4 athlon PC for about 4.5 years and its about time to upgrade. I used to build PC's at computer shop but have been somewhat "out" of computers for the last 3 years so I'm not completely up to speed on all aspects of computers. I have a basic idea of what I want to build. I also want to know if there's any reason to wait a few months to build such as a new technology that I gotta have. The PC will be for gaming and net use. I WILL NOT be overclocking this PC, reliablilty and stability are my #1 concerns. I want to know if a socket 939 will give some ok upgradability in the future. Is the winchester core much better than the newcastle because its quite a bit more expensive.

Here's what I'm thinking of so far:

MSI K8N Neo platinum Nforce 3 $103
Mushkin dual pack 1GB total 2.5-3-3 $136
Sapphire X300 Pro AGP $409
AMD athlon 64 3200+ winchester $235
Seagate 160GB 7200 SATA $110
NEC 16X dual layer burner $68
Lian Li black aluminum case $89
Antec 400w PS $65

Thanks for the help.

Go use an iron to castrate yourself, no need to throw attitude when the guy is asking a question.

And to answer your question as to the "future proofness" since you use your PC's for sometime. Not understanding your video card selection. That and Nforce 4 boards are the new wave for the S939 CPUs.

and isn't the neo a 754 board o_o

(also, if you're not overclocking i can't see a real reason to get a winnie core, they have a slight performance gain and run cooler, but they're only worth the money if you're going to oc)

Yet I was perfectly able to understand him! So I guess that does make me a genius and that makes you a...what? (Specially since you're basically asking the exact same question a thread or so down, so don't knock him for asking about a rig that pertains to his needs).

Anyways Reiniku has a point, go with a Newcastle core if you're not OCing, they run cheaper then the Winchester.

So you're going to be a punk because he mispelled something? And it's GENIUS, not genious.

Sorry guys it was a X800 pro. Sorry it took me a while 60 seconds to see and fix my title spelling. I won't let it happen again :) Also both the M/B and CPU are socket 939. I'm gonna have to go with the Neo 2 Nforce 3 ULTRA which does the 939 socket.

Yeah, I would buy the CPU somewhere else (I know, I just bought it the other day from newegg, didn't realize the price went up $20 the day I bought it...). You may be able to buy a CPu/mobo/RAM combo off monarch for a pretty good price. Otherwise, good choices. Very similar to what I bought (except I got the Epox motherboard and a smaller HDD).

BTW I HATE Epox, I got their first athlon slot M/B with DDR ram and it sucked A$$ bad. I refuse to buy Epox. I'm not set on buying from newegg, actually I'd prefer not to because I have to pay sales tax to TN which is over 9% which adds a significant amount to the total.

I'm probably going to let this thread die and start a new one with the same contents without the spelling and technical mistakes. I think this one's got too much crap filling it up.
