Is now a good time to build a new AMD monster-rig?

Hello everyone. I built my current rig over a year ago. At the time, it was screaming fast: AMD Athlon XP 2000, Soyo SY-K7V DRAGON Plus, 2 sticks of 512 DDR PC2100 RAM and 2 Western Digital 40 Gig drives in a RAID-0 array. Current pixel-pushing power is provided by an Abit Siluro GeForce4 Ti-4400. But now, I have the burning desire to build a new monster to play/create/burn and surf on. 😉

Three questions: 1.) Is now the right time, or should I wait for the Opterons/Hammers to come?

2.) If it is a good time, which nVidia N-Force 2 m/b should I go with? (Stability and feature set counting the most.)

3.) Speaking of video cards, how much real-world performance do I lose if I go with the 9700 A-I-W vs. a 9800 Pro?

1) one can never say cause you can wait forever

!) Just wait, if you had a slug of a machine I'd say now is the time, but you seem pretty well off IMO.
