Well guys, I mentioned in a thread earlier that I got a new radeon 8500. I popped it in and it sucks. People are saying that its possible conflicting drivers, and a couple of them actually suggested a clean format. I have a lot of software that I seem to have *lost* the disk to ;) and may have trouble *finding* that disk again. is there any way to make a mirror image of my hard drive, wipe it totally clean, then try again?

I dont want the hassle of reloading all the software n stuff. I wish PCs worked like Mac's how they keep all their program files together (ie: remember the kid who ganked MS Office off a Circuit City display comp with his IPOD?).

Anyways, what do you guys suggest?

If you need more info or a better description, feel free to let me know :)

well you can, but once you load the image, it'll be back to the same way it was before... right?

guess i'm not seeing how this will help you keep your software and fix the driver issue.

yEAH,what he says :)

You'd be better off making sure you've completely uninstalled the old drivers and then reinstalling them

well i was in your situation...

i just did a clean install, but made sure to make an image after i got all my programs reinstalled. that way i won't have to lose too much the next time something goes horribly wrong.

well norton ghost will not do what you said you wanted (since, the image would just make your computer go back to the screwed up way it is now).

it puts the image on multiple cdrs, depending on how much space you have taken up. or if you have another partition (on a separate *physical* disk), you can write the image to that as well.

Now I get to decide what OS to put on! YAY!

you can save it to cd-r, another hard drive, a partition on another hard drive, or a networked computer.

Ghost will compress to around 1.2GB down to 700MB. If I were you, opt for the putting the image onto another drive, or network. I backed up my C:\ (system files) drive which took 8 CDs, then my D:\ (data) which took 35. At around 32 it said it couldn't write to the CD and it stopped. I almost cried. Then, when loading up teh C:\ image from CD, it only read from the first 2....I don't know why. I'm going to backup again when Ire-install all my programs onto another hard drive I have.

you use the ghost bootup disk, which boots into the program, then you go from there. you never use ghost in windows.

Dan fungus, how exactly can I save it over the network? I mean I guess I dont know exactly what to save. I am on a network with my bro's computer and we get insane transfer speeds, seeing as how we are 10 feet away...so I guess that would certainly be an option.

So anyways, what would I need to save to keep my current program files? Like my photoshop and all that good stuff?

Ghost makes a backup image of the drive nothing more, it is not a magical juarez reinstaller

Ghost 2002 or Drive Image 5

Can a partition image can be saved to...
* another drive,
* another partition on the same drive,
* another drive in a network,
* CDRs,

Which Suite is more useful for non-virus apps?
