Is newegg.com trying to cheat me?

I am royally pissed. Here I am thinking I bought a new MSI K7T Turbo2 motherboard only to notice that this mobo isn't in prestine condition. I just wished they would seal the box with saran wrap so consumers know they are getting new merchandise.

Anyone who bought this mobo from newegg, I need you on this one. I'll do some investigation first before I decide to have this exchanged.

The package has no items missing. What was missing was the yellow, warning tape that seals the anti-static bag. A piece of clear tape was used instead. This lit up some red lights immediately. Perhaps, the original purchaser ripped it off instead of carefully pealing it, like I do when I intend to return a merchandise.

Next, when I removed the mobo from the bag, I noticed immediately that there were stains on the surface, front and back. Upon carefully investigation, the stain had a sticky consistency, like when you spill soda and don't clean it off, and after a while the thing turns sticky on you. I'm thinking the original owner spilled something on this mobo and then returned it. I'm royally pissed.

I guess I need some reinforcement from you people, that I'm not just over-reacting and that this is normal?

Right now I'm doing some burn-in tests to see if anything has been damaged.

If it were me, I'd send it back...

NewEgg will give you another one, just tell them the problem.

This is why you buy from companies like them. :)

They shouldn't have sent it, so do be sure to tell them why you're exchanging.

What the hell are you doing posting here about it?

Call them.

Let them know they screwed up & sent you a used board, they should send you a new one.

BTW I'm running the exact same board in the machine I'm using right now.

I bought mine refurbished from NewEgg (without the soda stains tho  ).

Did you buy a refurb? or did you specifically buy a new one?

I found that nothing gets soda stains off motherboard better than good ole' elbow grease with a nice rubbing from steel wool.

Good luck!

Yes, newegg.com is trying the cheat you! Yes YOU! Just one out of thousands of people, yes they are going to cheat YOU! Did you ever stop to think that maybe..... just..... maybe.... they missed the stain on your board and shipped it out by mistake?

Someone has a complex on their hands....

They cheated me too. After installing the motherboard, I noticed there was no longer yellow sealing tape on the MB bag. ;)

All the motherboards I've received from them have been in pristine condition.

I bought a lite-on 48x CD-RW from them last month, ordered it late Sunday night, it was at my doorstep Wednesday afternoon (Calif to Conn). Packaged perfect, brand new, works perfect. Needless to say, no problems whatsoever with newegg. Return your mobo for another, they won't give you a problem.

Call Newegg and calmly explain the situation to them. I am sure they will make it right. I have spent $30K + with them this year and they always give excellent service (Even when I was only spending <$500 /year :)).
