Is newegg.com going bad?

Newegg.com has become my primary vendor, I've spent over $10,000 there. That's why I find what just happened so strange.

Yesterday afternoon I ordered downloadable software from them. It was TextAloud MP3-Retail for $17.99. [=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E1681243141SF] My charge went through, but I did not receive the download information for about seven hours. I downloaded the program last night, but it was the free trial version. I called Newegg customer service and asked why I did not receive the codes to unlock the program. I was told "that is the only version that we have right now." I was told I could have the number of the software company and can see what they could do; however, after four dollars in phone calls I just requested a refund.

Newegg has been so absolutely stellar, I'm amazed that they're selling trial version software. Weird! It was not the retail version as stated. So I'm out four dollars.

That's pretty retarted.

I came in here expecting you to blast them for their linux system offerings, which places like Fry's Electronics sell too.

But selling trial software, wtf?

Dunno bout the trial software. I just haven't been blown away by the prices lately. But, of course, there are other ways to judge retailers besides pricing. Newegg does seem to excel in some of those (rma, etc.)

Crazy newegg.... The CSR should've contacted the dev/pub and gotten you an unlock code.

I think their prices are still generally pretty stellar depending on what you're after, but I find that once you get to the checkout you're in for a surprise with shipping prices. Newegg generally has just as good if not better prices than places like ZZF or eWiz when bargain hunting, but unlike those places they force 3-day shipping which seems to be $14 for the first and $7 for every subsequent item :Q. I'll take the free 5-7 day shipping from the other places, please.

I just posted a review of the product on Newegg.com. There was one review of the product entitled, WOW! I entitled mine, WHOOPS! I explained it was the trial version and not the retail version and that no unlocking keys were available.

I read how all reviews are reviewed before posting. I'm curious what Newegg does with this one.

Oh dear.

While you're here, NewEgg Rep, when do you plan on shipping to that other state, I believe we call it "Canada"? It would be quite nice.

I see that spelling everywhere. I hope it's intentional, like "pwned" has become common spelling.

I think he/she is legit. Now if he/she asked for a CC# and SSN, then It'd be suspicious. :p

I think you're retarded as well. It's a commonly misspelled word and just because it occurs quite often, doesn't make it a "variation" nor can it be considered intentional.

they have a toll free number.

There's no free ride on toll-free numbers. I got tired of being ripped off by my cell phone company so I got rid of them in favor of a $.10 a minute prepaid cell phone. I also have a USB VOIP phone, but currently I only find it reliable 20% of the time.

I trusted your guys advice and PMed Newegg Support so hopefully this thing gets cleared up.

Just for the record, Skype offers free US calls for this year, I've been using it during the daytime when I knew I'd be talking for a half hour or more to solve some issues rather than my cell phone. Telephone service companies are pretty much raping us, greedy folks, but it's business :p

lol, you can't dictate whether something was intentional or not, regardless of how much you may disapprove of it ;)

People have one bad experience and go ballistic on newegg. Probably just a clueless CSR... hope it all gets ironed out.

NewEgg's customer service is the best in the industry, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, they are top-notch for ANY industry!

The NewEgg rep that replied is legit...and I have no doubt that the mix-up will be straightened out without delay or further inconvenience by the OP.
