Is .net the new .com?

I was listening to Stern today on Sirius and a few of his commercials were from bodog and golden palace. But when they mentioned the site, instead of it being .com it was .net. Any idea why?

All of the good .com's are taken?

Pretty much it. My wife's company has a .net because the .com was taken. Even though the dumbass wasn't even using it but he didn't seem to understand that part...

I think the .net suffix is to denote that it is for "fake money" whereas the .com is the real deal.

yes, for all gambling sites, the "real" money ones (that are illegal to use in the USA) are the .com and the .net version is the "fake" money/free legal version

then they wait for you to forget the .net and go to the .com and that is how they get around the law that restricts them from advertising the "REal" money .com site

Also, at the WSOP this year, people who were wearing clothing with gambling sites.com had to take eletric tape and cover up the .com.

But in the example I mentioned, both .net and .com go to the same site(s). So why, after marketing your sites as (ex. bodog.com) would you drop it and start with bodog.net when it is the same exact company?

they aren't the same sites, for the reasons already mentioned.

I don't think dot anything will ever replace dot com. People still get confused when I give them my dot org address...
