Is name brand RAM worth it?

I just ordered 128MB of PC133 memory from tufshop.com for $55. It is supposed to be 7ns, gold plated, with a lifetime warrenty. I really can't see why anyone would pay twice that price for a name brand unless they are trying to overclock it. Anyone have different expirences?

I've gotten both Generic RAM and Name brand stuff, and from what I see, with the name brand chips you have a better chance of getting a good piece of RAM, but on the other hand, you will sometimes see certain generic chips that turn out great for people. It's mostly a luck of the draw thing.

It Depends on what you need ...

If you need to run 150mhz FSB at cas2 ... you will want brand name ...

if you just want to run at 133 cas3 ... any ram will do

i've seen many posts of generic p133 not even being able to run at 133 cas3 and giving all sorts of windows errors

I seriously doubt they are selling "7ns" 128MB PC133 for 55.00. You realize that 7ns = 143MHz or PC143 right? Anything is possible I suppose.

well, depends.

If you want to overclock, then get good ram.

If its just an everyday, do whatever. then generic is ok.

It said 7ns but I haven't gotten it yet so I really don't know. I'm going to be running it at 100mhz so it dosen't matter to me. It also said gold plated which is hard to believe because it's $55. check it out, they are selling name brand ram guaronteed to be PC133 cas2 for pretty cheap.

Don't get fooled by the Gold Plate deal. At one time Intel specifically said NOT to use Gold plates Simms on their boards. Its a crap shoot with generic ram, if you got time to mess around, ship it back, fix possible Registry screw ups, then go for it. If you want a stable system, first time out the box, pay the extra $$s and value your time as money.
