is my video card the reason for the choppiness?

I just built a new computer with an amd 64 3000+, soltek k8t939-pro, 1GB ram, and 9600XT. I noticed this problem when i was playing madden 2005. the default setting for the game was 1024x768 and i had a lot of choppiness in the sound/video. so i changed the resolution and the problem was solved. for nba live, the default setting is 640x480, and even with such a low resolution i still get choppy sound. I thought my video card would be able to play these games without a problem buti guess i was wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can it be something other then my video card? thanks.

Yes, check your audio. Are you using a soundcard or MB audio?

9600xt should handle those games pretty easily. Check other things, make sure all drivers are up to date. Make sure Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic filtering, and vsync are off.

im using onboard audio. how do u turn AA off? at the lowest quality(highest performance) setting, AA is set to application preference as is anisotropic filtering. i turned vsync off and still no luck. i checked and my audio and video drivers are up to date. i installed max payne 2 and that works fine. maybe its just an ea sports thing.

make absolutely sure your EA in-game settings do not use EAX or other audio that requires a more advanced sound card - that will cause problems you seem to be experiencing.
