Well, I just ordered another X800 Non Pro and was wondering if my new upgrade to a 3400 Newcastle would be held back due to the video card. I'm going to be taking the X800 to Pro speeds, and then hopefully overclock the 3400 to around 2.8 Ghz (I got my 2800+ to 2.6 ....). Let me know if either would be holding each other back or if they are a match made in heaven.

Yes your video card is holding you back.

If you want to make your CPU the bottleneck for the majority of games you would need to buy a X1800XT/X1900XT

Holy mother. I don't have the funds for either of those cards (my rig without memory has cost me 270$). Btw, is the video card holding back the cpu ALOT?!? I mean, I could get a 7900GT if it was worth it...

yup if you can afford it the 900gt is todays best deal.

not really depends on games, setting, resolution. at 20:15 with the x1900xt will be the bottleneck.

OP don't worry about whats bottlenecking what . just build a appropriate rig within your budget and enjoy it. something will always be the bottleneck.

Well, I got another one because my dad wants the one that I have now. Also, I'm going to be passing the cpu to my dad as well (I'll be using the 2800+, which will do 2.6 GHz). Btw, should I purchase 2 x 512 sticks of ram or 2 x 1gb sticks?!? Thanks in advance.

Wow, my question was very vague. I meant to ask whether or not the performance of 2 gb's of memory will be substantially better than 1 gb for gaming today (no BF2 or FEAR or Oblivion).

To make the cpu a bottleneck for a 3400 even at stock you need a 1900XT/7900GTX class graphic card

atleast get 1800XT over 7900GT.

Holy cow. I'm just going to give my dad the 3400 and take his 2800 back, that way the bottleneck is less severe... I'm always a few generations behind when it comes to computers because the max res on my lcd is 1280x1024. Check out the sig..., my whole rig cost about as much as a mid-high video card...
