Hi guys. Current card is a VisionTek Radeon X1650XT XGE agp.
Lately I have been having issues running any kind of 3d application, whether it be a game, a demo, stress test, benchmark, anything. It'll lock up anywhere between 5 secs and 5 minutes.
Last week I had this issue, I took the card out, used compressed air and got all the dust out of the fan and heatsink, and it worked for about a week. Now, the issues are back. I opened a crash dump, and one of the things it said was memory corruption. I tried the "find max mem" feature in ATi Tray Tools, and it takes about 4 seconds before it finds artifacts at stock speed, and keeps moving the clock down, but every time finds artifacts within 10 seconds. I then ran the benchmark in Tray tools and it made it the whole way through.
Does this sound like the memory is just bad on my card? What makes me wonder is why it worked fine for a week after I got the compressed air, and now is back to messing up. Could it be bad cooling? I have the stock hsf on the card now. I don't know how to check the temp of the gpu...doesnt show up in Tray Tools or PC Wizard. The PSU is brand new, my system RAM is also new, tho I ran memtest to be sure, and no errors came back. Yesterday I could play games just fine, today it is back to its issues.
Anything else I can check out? Do i just need to buy a new card? New cooling? help!
rest of system:
athlon xp 2800+
1gb ram
Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum kt400
sb audigy 2
Edit:
Just for fun I pulled the card out, blew some air on it, re-seated the hsf, and same result.
