This is a voodoo3 3k from OD that I bought when I got in on that OD clearance hot deal.

My problem, the box, and the way it's packaged, was different. I have bought many cards in the past, but this card was packaged backwards.... THe seam that runs along the top and sides, ran along the sides and bottom, I dont' know what to make of it, and it comes with a rebate sticker that expired but I don't know if it's remanufactured, used or what not.

I also noticed little lines on the pci pins... Is that normal, as if it was scratched up by someones pci slot.

did the plastic wrap around it feel "right"?? I know the office depot and others DO have their own shrinkwrap equipment so they could easily repackage a returned item.

oh, yeah, the packaging was 3dfx material, I know how they shrink wrap, (with holes in the wrap when they are done) but this is great quality wrap... Luckily I kept the wrap from my other vid card (voodoo3) and it was exactly the same, just the seams ran unsidedown.

Besides, my OD sends stuff back.. The question is, whether 3dfx sends out used cards. :|

The scratches that you see on the PCI pins aren't all that abnormal; many factories will run a quicktest on those cards before shipping them out, and yours may have been chosen for that purpose. My recent Adaptec cards all had scratches on the PCI pins but they were all brand new.

oh, but there are so many mixed opinions...

Thing is, every voodoo card I have ever bought (I have built many v3 systems) and I have noticed it on almost all of them.. No, all of them actually, from places like BB and OD, to Staples ect..

I don't think that's the problem, but the packaging is what I am worried about, it's on upside down.

as long as it works, why even bother to make yourself worry about this kind stuff...besides...3dfx is history...which means pretty soon you will have no place to ask for warrenty...~_~

I wouldnt' say that the pins are "stripped" they mearly have an outline of the connector, many of the cards that I bought do. It wasn't used from OD, but maybe 3dfx remanufactures cards they think are "new" condition.. I can't say. But what bothers me is that the box's wrapping was on backwards, the seam was along the bottom and sides, not the top and sides.

Anyways, if a card works, then what are the chances of it dying?

Also, are 2d impurities a vid card problem, or is it a driver problem? Both can create such problems.

I got to return it in 2 days, hope someone helps me out before it's too late...

I see some people state that they have the same line problems. Can someone explain about how it's wrapped?

I don't think anyone here works for 3dfx so I don't think they could tell you how it was wrapped. Have you tried contacting 3dfx and to see how they package it?
